When I first saw this hand in the history I though, 'Why in the HELL did I call this?' Then I saw that I was in the BB, and that I would have 2xBB left if I didn't call. I also realized that this guy is probably pushing almost any two. So maybe it wasn't so stupid.

I think I'd do the same thing. I agree with your rationale -- you're not gonna have a chance to steal on the next hand and you're getting great odds here. According to pokerstove J8o is a 51% favorite vs. a random hand.

I did not know that offhand but a post like yours makes me realize that I should! I feel kind of embarassed admitting that. I need to make a chart to memorize different "equivalent" ranges vs. random hands.

I "intuitively" figured J8o was "good enough" against a random hand but it's hitting me that this is fundamental stuff that I must know to be able to succeed.
