Here's a list of words with a Q but without a U (http://www.scrabble.org.au/words/ulessq.htm) that are useful when you have a Q without a U.

Knowing all the two letter words is key. Like 'et' and some others I forgot. It's been awhile since I played semi-seriously.

EDIT: also, zyzzyva's a pretty good scorer.

If you google you can find lists of all the small words you can use. Memorizing the two letters words is the easiest and fastest way to get a better score.
