i'm currently sitting down with 20BB a session, usually play an hour then leave the table.

if I two-table+ then i'll sit down with 15BB. what are you guys doing?

The default 25 BB.

Why would you sit down with 15 BB? You lose one hand and you'll be under 12 BB for the next hand.

Usually 50BB, if I dont have enough for 4 tables with 50BB then 25 (the default)...by not enough I mean on the site, I never play above my roll /images/graemlins/smile.gif

50BB.

That way you almost never have to rebuy at a table while multitabling.

50BB. And if a table breaks, I buy in at the for the new table for exactly what I had left.

I have no idea why you would sit with fewer BB's to multi-table.
That seems rather....ummmmm.....'simplistic' (not really...I just wanted to say that)

usually I sit with 50Bb, but I know a very good winning player that sits with the minium everytime, he has a huge bankroll his opinion is that he gets more action from people buying in short so it looks like hes trying to take a shot at a bigger game, until they look up his pokertracker stats.

This will sound stupid to some, but it seems to work for me in low limit games.

I try and sit down with more money that anyone else at the table, whatever that may be (usually $100 more than next highest stack)....some players make mental assumptions based on competitors stacks. Yeah, I know a good player should ignore this most of the time.....but it is human nature, and certain players can be intimidated by it with the simple sumation that if a guy has that much money he must have won alot to get it. Just a small, free mental advantage.

IMO same idea goes in reverse for the people who enter low limit games with micro stacks: Is the mental assumption that this is a good player or rather someone who is just trying to throw a hail mary? dont we generally assume a deperate figure on his last legs?
They are just numbers on a screen, but I think the size of stacks do have a subconsious effect.

I make so much money off people trying to blow off the last of their chips, that I don't really mind if someone tries to fool me like this.

When I see someone with $1,000+ on the 2/4 tables I'm at I think to myself, "what an ass, I'm gonna drive over that biatzhhch". So often it ends up with me being even more aggressive against that player /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And to answer OP, usually 25BB which I will constantly rebuy if it gets short.

Used to be 25BB. But a couple of big pots coulde take you to below 12BB, and with so much going on, you often won't get to buy in quick enough for the next hand. If you can afford it, 50BB, or even 100BB. And from then on, try not to take any notice of your stack. Just concentrate on your game.

Also agree with the idea that having a big stack does intimidate some of the more passive players. Two things I've noticed a lot recently (may be nothing to do with stack size though):

I raise LP first in, blinds call. Flop brings rags. One of the blinds bets, I raise, blinds fold.

CO or button raises first in, I reraise in SB/BB, raiser folds.

Happens a hell of lot recently. Funny thing is the same players keep on doing this. Can often play back with nothing, and win the pot right there. Thank you PT! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I usually 4-table and I buy in for different amounts at each table. One table I might buy in for 37BBs...another 56BBs...another 29BBs....and the other 41BBs.

I do this so I can't immediately calculate how my session is proceeding. It helps me focus more on the cards and less on thoughts like 'gee, I'm down 21BBs' or 'wow, I'm up 32BBs, maybe it's time to go golfing'.

very interesting. I like your style of thinking.

I guess I should explain why I buy-in short,

a) it's my way of managing my bankroll so if I'm playing like [censored], I can blow off 15-20BB and then stop playing for the day.

b) it's pretty rare that I will 20BB in an hour so I don't feel the need to buy-in for more (I play short sessions then take breaks)

c) i'm fairly new to the grinding routine and limit poker in general, i'm playing the 2/4 and found myself to be a short-term winning player, but I want to see where i'm at @10k hands under my belt.

d) i'll probably listen to you guys and buy-in minimum 20BB, but more likely start with 25BB.

This validates my point......you have made a subconcious assumption about a player based on his stack size. Be it with aggressiveness or intimidation, you have changed your style of play to some regard.

25BB. Allow myself (1) rebuy if the table warrants it.

Yeah...they're overcompensating for the lack of something else.

I sit down with 25BB/table, but I really like the idea posed about buying in for varying amounts. Too often I find myself mentally calculating how much I'm up/down for the session. I like to think I'm disciplined enough NOT to let this effect my play, but I'm sure it does to some extent.

25 BBs/table, unless the table is particularly loose & aggressive, in which case I'll buy in for anywhere from 35-50 BBs, depending on mood.

Every so often I'll get a wild hair on my ass & sit down at a .50/1 table with about $2k in chips. Always gets some good chat going. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I'm reading this correctly then this is absolutely horrible.

12BB's is the most you can put in on a given hand (at party with 4-bet cap including heads-up).
The reason you HAVE to keep 12BB's at the table at ALL times is if you get quads against someone else pushing back all the way with a full-house or something.

You don't want to have just 6BB's sitting at the table when you could have extracted more.

If you regularly play to the point where you just stop when you have no money at the table then you are REALLY hurting yourself.

what about those times when you have 3BB there and then get AA in a multi-way capped pot.
Maybe you could have won a 30BB pot but instead a side-pot is created after you are all-in and you only take a 9BB pot.

Don't let yourself get down to zero at the table. Always keep at least 12BB there (meaning you should re-buy if you are down to 8-10BB's or fewer).
The reason so many have 50BB or more is because they don't want to have to bother with keeping an eye on each table that has 20BB or fewer (and thus is in danger of falling below 12).

Multitabling shouldn't effect your buy-in. If you can't afford to buy in for your norm at all tables, you shouldn't be playing 1 table, let alone 4 or 5.

Just my $0.02.

I do 25x. But, I only 2-table. When I drop below 12.5BB I usually leave or reload.

default, 25BB, but if I'm feeling frisky I'll sit at some .5/1 with $10,000, then I tell everyone I'm up 9975BB and cap everything ... intimination..baby.
