I actually like the pre-flop call more than the push. That's not saying much, though.

In efforts to be nice to a fellow alcoholic, don't see why you wouldn't want to see a free/cheap Turn card with several others involved in the pot.

I like it the other way around... call: meh, push: YAY!

I think this is exactly the situation a marginal call up front is hoping for.
