It's for golf, not hunting. I'm willing to spend about $200. I don't want one that needs a reflector on the flag, I want to be able to point it at anything. It has to have a 250 yard (or more) range. TIA.

just look for a bushnell on on ebay, could get it for less than 200 i imagine.

i had one when i played in high school, worked ok, but i imagine they have improved since then.

its kinda like playerview or PT, once you use it a few times, when you are w/o it doesnt feel quite right.

I need one of these too. I have been thinking of really trying to learn my wedge distances. Did you find the rangefinder worked ok at relatively short distances with no reflector thing, etc....?

it worked like a charm from 130 and in id say, and from there out it depended on if the flag was flapping or not, whether there are things near the green you can can a second distance from.

like i said, i am sure they are much better and smaller now. a fun toy to play with for sure.

Yes, an assassination of the hole with my Cobra Baffler.

In case you want to golf at night (http://www.dsd.es.northropgrumman.com/laser/MarkVII.html)

Edit: Oops, I just remembered it's a bit over your price limit. Sorry.

if you think this is going to help your golf game, your money would be better spent on lessons.

you can probably get a plastic piece of crap nonelectronic thing for like $2 that will do you just as good i suppose.
you look through it and measure the stick against the markings inside that show distance.

Is that why all pros and caddies use them now?

Those don't work or do what you need.

When you use it, you know you have to hit the ball exactly 167.3 yds. Then you pull out your 7 iron and hit it 96% of your maximum distance. if you can do that, then i guess that the rangefinder would be useful. otherwise, they arent going to help you score lower.

so knowing how far you hit each wedge and each partial wedge won't help? That's a big reason why I want one. You can't use it during the round, but I think it is very useful to check your actual distances with clubs and to measure certain things in practice rounds.

when did anyone say it was one or the other?

its not so much that it helps your game, but it speeds up play alot and is fun to use.

I already take lessons. Rangefinders aren't training aids, they're tools you use to get information about the course which your eyes sometimes can't see. They help almost every skill level.

The reason it helps is mainly for mapping out a course. You measure distances from the tee to fairway bunkers to see if you can carry it or stay short of it with your driver. Measure the depth of the greens to see what difference a front or back pin makes. Measure from your naormal landing area to a hazard in front of the green, so you can lay up to a comfortable spot on a par 5. etc.

They're NOT used to find out if you have 167.3 or 167.4 yards to the hole. It's illegal to do that anyway.

This (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1514&item=71501108 70&rd=1)
is the one I use, and I love it.
Can hit the flag up to 250yds(that takes a little practice).
Highly accurate.
Can(barely) fit in your pocket.
