View Full Version : AA 1st hand Can I really Fold this?

1st hand of $11 NL Step on Party Poker to WSOP. I am on the button. 10-15 blinds.

UTG calls. Folds until the cutoff who raises to 75. I have AA and I call for deception.

UTG then pushes All In. Cut Off thinks for a while and calls the all in.

Is anyone folding here?

I know this sounds like those stupid hypotheticals that everyone likes to post, but this really happened to me last night.

I'll post the results later.

It's a $11 step where the only place that moves on is first...

Call with a /images/graemlins/smile.gif on your face! You will triple up enough here to give you a good chance. I don't understand the party WSOP steps structure anyway, very stacked againt you to take your money...

How many fold AA posts do people need to make before they get the idea.

This question is clearly part of a larger conspiracy to put me on tilt today, so I refuse to give in to the urge to flame. Instead, I will haiku.

Two all-ins pre-flop.
Should I fold my rockets here?
I have no scrotum.

Now for the part you all knew was coming.....
I looked up the odds at the Card Player website and I am a 70% favorite against another pocket pair and two high cards. I am a 66% favorite against two other pocket pairs.

Obviously I called.

My opponents turned over JJ and AK. The flop had a Jack, the turn was a 10 and the river was a Queen, giving the AK the straight.

The first time I have ever been eliminated from any tournament in the first hand.

Is this a bad omen for my chances at qualifying for the WSOP?

Let me guess. You called and were beaten by the guy who caught his set of 10s. Alert the bad beat police. My advice: quit poker, because you have no idea what you are doing.

The only "bad Omen" you have is playing the steps at party. Cash out NOW and go to stars to qualify before you lose all your money.

Yeah I called all-in once with my suited aces and got rivered by pocket jokers so I'll refer you to the previous words of wisdom:

Maybe people would stop posting about folding AA if you didnt all indulge them with 3-4 pages of responses. If you want to consider folding AA here, you have no chance to be a good poker player, until you learn to understand the game.

I can see why this question would be asked, which is because prizes pay all the way down to 6th(?) place? Well, if 1st-6th all paid the same prize, there might be an argument for folding (an argument, maybe), but since 1st place pays so much more than any other place, you should be MORE willing to gamble for big pots.

Trying to put this as nicely as possible...

The very fact that you had to look up the odds on this one to justify calling here is the 'bad omen'. Do not waste your time and money on trying to qualify because you have a worse shot of winning the main event than I do and Im not going.
