The villian was pretty loose and fairly aggressive postflop. He's also tried to steal blinds before. This was all pretty good indication that he may have been using that ace to scare me out of the pot (correctly assuming I may have had a lower pocket pair and would fold to his turn raise).

I might even think of Check/folding the turn...

His stats aren't really as loose/aggressive as you think. I bet there are some successfull 2fers with those stats. Maniac status, imo, is what you need to call that down. He's got an A or 8 too many times.
