No. However, you will have some overlap, so if you are ok with overlap go for it.

How would you compare it to a 19" Stationary monitor with 1600x1200 resolution? I remember trying out 1600x1200 on my old monitor which was a 17" and it was all small and fuzzy.

looks like i am the lucky one.

i 4 table and its not at all too small, my eyes never hurt afterwards, and you have an extra 2-3" on the side for which to AIM with while playing if you like.

i have 5-6 tabled on this monitor several times and it is a little hectic, but can certainly be done.

other than that however, that laptop rocks. good pick.

it can also be hooked up to one or two 2001FP's, which is awesome as well.

I'm just getting used to the tinyness I used to play full screen (2 table) and sit 5 feet from my pc.

It's really cool, last night I played 3 tables and watched Arrested Development and Imed.

Thanks for the info fsuplayer, now I can go out and buy it /images/graemlins/grin.gif

IndieMatty, having big tables is comfortable sometimes, you can sit way back. But it isn't practical /images/graemlins/frown.gif Unless you have a 50" plasma!

I just got a 9300 with a 17" WUXGA screen. To describe this thing in two words, I would choose BAD ASS. The screen is beautiful and is just about perfect if you ask me. I usually use a 2001FP on my home desktop. 4-tabling would be fine and actually BETTER than on a 2001FP except I'm having a software problem with Party adding extra space around the edge of my windows - I need to get that fixed. Anyway, you'll have room for 4 tables with extra on the side (or middle, whatever) for other apps - AIM or WinAmp or maybe a tv window, whatever.

The only problem I have with the 9300 17" widescreen is on a plane - it's freaking huge and a bit unwieldy in economy class seating.

Here is how to fix this:

Right Click on your Desktop.
Choose "Properties".
Go to the "Settings" Tab.
Click "Advanced".
Search around your Advanced settings for something called "DPI".
Change your "DPI Setting" to "Normal Size".

You will probably have to restart after this for the settings to take, so make sure that you don't have anything important open.

Awesome. Thank you kind sir. Not to threadjack, but I see an opportunity opening up for me to maybe get some help on another problem. I can't get Windows Exploder to give me a damned address bar. I set it to have the Address Bar and it just gives me the little piece that says 'Address' but without anything useful like the actual Address Bar itself. Any thoughts?

no problem. not sure how the hell you did that one with the address bar. can you left click on it and maybe drag it down a level to where it should be?

You might also try to go tools > folder options > the "view" tab and then click the "restore defaults" button. This *in theory* should restore your default folder view settings. After this happens you can reset all of your preferences.

I can't drag it anywhere and restoring the defaults doesn't do anything. It shows up fine for other accounts on this machine, so maybe this login is just [censored].

I don't know if you wanted/needed a screen shot, but here's one of 4 tables on my 9300 17" WUXGA - 19200x1200. I think the 17" widescreen is the perfect size. Any bigger and it would be just too big. I've got a 15.4" WUXGA at work and man am I glad I got the 17" W for my own laptop. 15.4" is too small for 19200x1200, but it looks good on a 17". As you can see, there's plenty of room left over on the side for other stuff, as well as some room to maneuver a bit vertically. Highly recommended.

Sorry for stretching the page.

It's just a bad pic, the screen is fantastic. I just wanted to give an idea of the layout. Taking a flash picture of a reflective screen is tough.

That's what I want to hear. I think it'll be especially useful for a student. I would imagine that the 17" Widescreen on Dell Inspiron is a bit larger than a 17" CRT, anyone know if this is true?

BusterStacks
04-07-2005, 08:07 AM
most definitely. As with any LCD, a 17" equates to a 19" CRT. That's pretty damn good.

I'm going to PM you too, but for the benefit of others...

Have you tried turning off the background wallpaper? That dell default image uses way too much color and I saw problems (additional tables would complain about memory then display tiny cards) when I first started datamining. Never had a problem after that. Good luck!
