I tried to select a number of unimproved AK hands. I won some of these, lost others. I feel like I'm not applying pressure when I should, and also not backing off when beat. Other than being unimproved, these are selected (mostly) at random.

phew, this is alot of work, but here we go!

Hand 1: I dont 3 bet the turn, If hes bluffing I want him to keep it up, and if hes got an 8 I want to save bets.

Hand2: You can prolly check fold here, but if you have a read he will bluff thenI call. He isnt calling your bet with anything you beat here, and he isnt folding anything you cant beat. So a bet does you no good.

Hand3: Bet the turn, take the free showdown

Hand4: Fold the turn. You dont have the best hand, and you dont have the odds to draw for 6 outs, and you might not have a full 6 outs

Hand5: I actually prolly bet the river here, you will get called by worse aces. I dont think checking is bad tho

Hand6: uhm, I think you messed something up in the HH /images/graemlins/smile.gif I would check behind tho

Hand7: I prolly just go ahead and bet the flop, but since you didnt, I fold here as well.

1) just call down the turnraise, he often has it here and when he doesnt you would like him to bluff the river.

2) this is tougher, there will be several ways to play this depending on reads. without any, this is fine. Check-calling the river may be better though.

3) This is just weird, I dont get it really. Call, call, call is probably better.

4) I hate when i get 3bet after raising here. I think you can fold the turn.

5) very player dependant, sometimes you can valuebet it. Checking is the standard line.

6) that some kinky river action..

7) fine, sometimes bet the flop.

Really?

I don't think we're going to get AK to fold here nearly often enough for this to be worth it for all the times we're up against AA KK QQ JJ TT.

hand 3 - when you fire that next bet on the turn after that 2nd 9 appears on the board you can chase away many opponents imo.
if he's gutsy enough to C/R back at you without a 9 and force you to fold then so be it. But I think there's a good enough chance you can take it right there.

I can buy that, but if hero checks this turn, it should be with the intention of folding the river unimproved. If you are going to call a river bet, betting the turn and then checking behind on the river is a much better play.

Hand #1 -- without a good read, this is a horrible turn 3-bet IMO.

Hand #2 -- check behind on the river, you might get a free showdown against 99 or TT. I think you're screwed. He's calling you down and it's a very undrawy board. Definite argument for check/folding the river or checking the turn IMO.

Hand #3 -- no reads? None? Ugh. Well, at least you got a cheap showdown. Against a lot of players you can fold the river.

Hand #4 -- okay I guess.

Hand #5 -- okay.

Hand #6 -- That's some pretty weird action on that river! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hand #7 -- I might fire out on the flop here, but I don't think this is too bad. Definitely don't want to call two back to you.

And before someone criticizes you -- I think it's fine to post a bunch of hands at once like you did here, as long as there's an obvious common thread (as there was here).

I think you're probably right....

But I have the nagging feeling that there's still some merit to checking this turn. Over-aggressive players will bluff with worse overcards here 90% of the time they have 'em.

Probably not often enough though.
