So, darts was on TV again on Fox Sports. First time I saw it, I thought it would be boring. But every time I see it, I find it fascinating. Anyone else agree?

It's pretty fun to watch after you figure out how it works.

At first, I didn't realize you have to close out the game by hitting a double. I figured it would be way too easy for those guys if they just need to hit a couple of the big squares a couple of times...

double or better in and out, I believe.

Do you guys get to watch all the best players in the world (British/Aussie/Dutch) or do you get to watch American players?

I find it really interesting as well. I think it is because it is quite a personal sport (1 on 1) and you can really relate to the players (they are unfit) and it can get very very tense at times.

The usual form of darts needs exactly a double out, otherwise anything goes.

I think most are British. The one event I was was a tournament in Vegas, some fat British guy with greasy hair and crusty teeth won.

Cricket rules BTW, by far Darts are the best drinking bar game.

All I know is every time I watch, some guy named Dave Taylor seems to win.

That would be Phil Taylor. He has won 9 out of the last 10 World Championships I believe. He is phenomenal.

Sometimes they do use "double in", but that is relatively uncommon.

He's talking about the cricket dart game I would imagine.

I've never seen cricket the sport on TV, and I know this, because I would watch that in a heartbeat if I could find it.

ThaSaltCracka

yeah, I think there is far more strategy in the game. Sometimes 301/501 is just blind luck for people. They throw the darts and randomly hit numbers. But in Cricket you have to actually hit certain numbers. Cuthroat Cricket is the best, where you give points to other players and the objective is getting the lowest score.

you have to hit 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15 and bullseye three times to lock it out. Doubles count as two hits, triples are three hits. You can can then score on a number until all players have locked said number out. You can throw at any number at any time. First player to lock out every nunber and have the highest total score wins. So, say you lock out everything but you are down by 25. If the bullseye is still open(ie, player with most points hasn't locked everything out) you can still throw at it for points.

this may help as well:
American Cricket Darts (http://www.ehow.com/how_8919_play-american-cricket.html)

Yeah I watch it all the time, there is something so unwholesome to me about darts though, in that the bullseye should be the highest value and you should always be shooting for that. Getting a "triple twenty" just seems stupid.

edit -
Also, I think the universe and the sun and stuff should rotate around the earth.

the bullseye is bigger than any of the triples though. I agree though, in every target game the center is always best. Its probably somehow the French's fault.

i like the guy who reads the score aloud and sounds like he's smoked about 100 cigarettes 5 minutes before the show.

i like the announcers who get extremely excited when a player might get 3 triple 20's and you can't make out what they're saying

I fell into a trance while watching it...triple 20...triple 20...triple 20. There's something hypnotic about it.

ThaSaltCracka

those guys are seriously amazing. I saw one guy aim for the left side of the triple 20 and made his dart point upwards, then hit the middle of the triple 20 with the dart pointed downwards, then hit the right side of the triple 20 with the dart pointed upwards.
