I would like to spend no more than 40k. I currently drive an S4 cabriolet, but am getting a little tired of it. I want a sporty car with a ride that is not too bumpy. I am thinking about the WRX Sti.

I have a wife and kids. I know this doesn't mean that I'm not gay, but you'll have to trust me on this, Boris. Please make a reco.

How about a new Mustang GT? I've heard some iffy stuff about the fit and finish, but I guess that's to be expected from Ford. Anyway, you can't really beat the looks of it and it would even allow you to spend the extra cash on some suspension mods to improve the ride.

Cheers,

Swede

i'm doubting whether or not this is a joke. the sti is a stiff ride and the s4 is a better car on virtually all fronts, they also start at 55k. how old is yours?

the 6mt g35 wouldn't be a bad choice, but you're going to be disappointed with the interior coming from an audi. 40k is a big limiter if you want smooth performance.

If you are married, don't spend 40K on a car.

It's no older than a year and a half. They didn't make a cabriolet until 2004 model year.

Also, according to KBB, a standard 2k4 s4 cabriolet is worth 50k.

yeah, i'm just wondering if he drove his into the ground and has somehow come up with a 40k limit as a result of it (wife-imposed "you can only trade, not pay" limit or something)

Yeah, there is a bounty on my head by certain people in my town. If they get a picture of me driving my wife's VW convertible they get $50 from one dude. Nice car. For my wife. If I drove it except in emergencies I might be gay.

Maybe try an Acura TL with the 6 speed manual? Has 270 horses and starts at around $33k.

Dude get a Ford Crown Victoria. The Crown Vic is a badass car. I'd also recommend a used Chevy Caprice or Impala SS from the mid 90's.

If you can find a police package caprice w/ the Corvette engine from the mid-late '90's yeah. The police package had a different chip you need. Probably not many left in decent shape. Excellent cars. Ugly but excellent. Cops uniformly liked the caprice a lot better. The crown vic didn't compare well to the caprice, but maybe they have improved them.

If the answer is no to anyone of those questions the TL is out of the question.

Yeah the Crown Vic did not have the HP nor the torque of the Caprice. I think a well-kept civilian caprice would also quite possibly be a good buy. The mid 90's Impala SS is basically the caprice with a corvette engine (if I remember correctly) and is comparable power-wise to the police package caprices from that time (though maybe not as far as suspension and stuff goes). As far as I can tell it is on its way to becoming a classic with a clean 96 Impala SS easily going for 15 g's or more. Nonetheless I think the crown vic is a very nice car and IMO is very underrated.

I have two friends who've had many problems with their TL's. The dealers here in Pittsburgh are also reputed to have the shittiest customer service in the area.
