Sorry if the question seems amateurish, and I realize that a lot of it can depend on your playing style, but what's an approximate range of % hands played to be profitable?

Thanks,

You should try doing a search, this gets discussed like once a week and u will get a huge variety of answers. My personal VPIP is 24% with a pfr of 15.5% However it has been steadily increasing lately, and I had a very good run as well when I was around 23/14.

Is this solely for SH play or also ring games?

I'd say 25% to as high as 40%. Postflop play and intelligent aggression (and preflop raising) are much more important than these numbers. SH VPIP boils down to specific hands...some people can make hands like K7o profitable, others can't or choose not to push marginal edges. Usually has a lot to do with reads and table selection.

Personally, I play around 30-32% VPIP, raising 23%.
