How is "Prima" pronounced?

I say "Preem-uh", but I have never heard VVP say it so I don't know how it is supposed to be pronounced. .

When I worked in radio I moved to a new town (Pt. St. Lucie, Florida) and was asked to do the voice-over on a spot for the St. Lucie Ale House located on 'Prima Vista Bouleavrd.'


since there was no phoenetical pronounciation on the copy I just assumed it was pronounced 'Preem-uh Vees-tuh' (not sure why I assumed this....that's just what I thought it would be for whatever reason).

I later had to go back and re-do the spot saying the locally correct 'Primm-uh Viss-tuh'.

Yes....and I was in Florida so silly me for thinking that they would pronounce it that way.
But I quickly learned that the 'locals' weren't exactly fluent in espanol and that most people referred to this street as Primm-uh Viss-tuh. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I always pronounce it pree-muh as well, though a friend of mine who plays at Royal Vegas swears it is Prime-uh. That name sounds lame and belongs with Transformers. If it isn't Pree-muh, then it should be!

preemuh- from the latin for first, and therefore very common in all romance languages. hasn't even changed pronunciation or spelling in italian and spanish. don't know about other romance languages as well. also- before, early, but usually first. it's the feminine form of course. also a female cousin in spanish. i was surprised to see this question seeing as how common it is. don't we even use it in english sometimes or am i imagining just cause i hear it in other languages a lot? anyways, isn't it silly that we don't know how to pronounce a new word in our own language? that's much of why romance languages are so much easier to learn. our language sucks, y'all.
