Sexson, two HR's and Moyer is pitching well, thank you jevus.

Why isn't Santana starting?

Yeah, I was wondering that. Maybe it had to do with how their rotation fell coming out of spring training, but I don't know.

Oh well, I'll take the start they've had!

Because he didn't have a very good season last year.

It wasn't at the start of the game. I don't know now, I have the TV on, but I'm just mostly listening, not watching.

Yeah, they closed the roof when the clouds started coming in. I'm liking things so far.

It was closed at some point during the first hour of the game, IIRC.

I love that a bunch of poker players can be so results oriented with 1/2 a game complete. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif My dad has the same enthusiasm about the Tigers after today's game. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can't wait to make it back to the Safe though...probably won't make it until the Oakland/Cleveland games toward the end of the month though. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

If it makes you feel any better, beside two pitches to Sexson, Radke has looked pretty good, as usual. And Joe Mauer is a hell of a player.

It's possible we will not have too much to cheer about for much of the season so we have to make the most of this first win. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Diamondbacks got smashed by the Cubs 16-6. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif Sounds more like a football score from a 1960's Bears/Minnesota game. Anyway, I think the D-backs have a chance to beat their 51 wins of last year so I'm really pumped. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Go M's. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

duuuuuuuuddddeeee have some faith man. The M's will compete for the Wild Card spot then fade away 2/3 of the way through the season.

The Mariners have a sick offense now. Ichiro aside, adding Beltre and Sexson makes this offense great.

But the pitching would make me worry. You guys don't have a Johnson or a Moose. If Moyer is your ace then your offense is going to have to work pretty hard.

if I had to give their pitching staff a grade, I would give it a C. Their bullpen is a B to me as well.

Offense is B+ or A-.

Offense is definitely an A-.

I'd give the pitching a C+ and the bullpen a B as well.

By comparison, I'd give the Yankees offense an A, the pitching a B+/A-(some question marks), and the bullpen an A-

You should have kept Garcia imo.

At least you still have a stellar closer in Guardado. And Jeff Nelson, the former Yankee, is pretty dependable.

Fair enough, yes the Yankees offense looks ferocious, and for some reason, Bostons didn't look as scary as it did last year.

As for the M's keeping Garcia, I disagree. That was a great trade for the M's if Olivo and Reed pan out. Actually, if they do pan out it may go down as one of the best trades in M's history.

The Mariners don't have as much money as the Yanks, but they do have quite a large amount. They had an 80 million payroll last year. The pitching market is in a bubble phrase right now, with merely average pitchers(Kris Benson) commanding 8 million/yr salaries- I know that. But it doesn't seem like Seattle even tried to make a play for a couple decent pitchers. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And Villone looks decent. Definitely better than Meche, although he is a bit older.

You're vastly overrating Richie Sexson.

they tried to get Pavano, I know that, but I think that was it.

Basically, Seattle is banking on a lot of the young arms they have in their system. In fact, some of them like Madritsch are in the rotation this year. The front office knew going into the offseason that the team was getting older on the field, and that a lot of the players they had relied on in the past to produce didn't and most likely weren't (Edgar, Olerud, Boone), so their main focus was on offensive production and improving defense(Reed, Beltre, and Sexson) will help a lot.

He's a good hitter, but he's not a standout guy and he's coming off and injury season. He also played in a significant hitter's park.

He'll probably be, I dunno, a top 50 hitter in the league That's good but it isn't great.

Good post. And once Reese gets back, they'll have a gold-glove caliber SS/2B.

if you are getting at that the M's overpaid him, I agree, but he hits for some nice power, and the M's need that.

Excellent game all in all, obviously Sexson was impressive, Moyer had a solid outing, and I almost got kicked out of Safeco for swearing too much. Couldn't ask for much more.

In order to know the answer to this, you have to be a true Twins fan. Either that, or just have to realize how truly retarded Gardenhire is. When he comes to motivation and team chemistry, he's outstanding. However, when it comes to math things like "Santana > Radke" just don't make sense to him.
