Tournament Situation: This is a satellite for the Paradise Guaranteed 20K. There are about 20 people left. I am about 14th. Only the top 8 get a seat. The blinds are escalating fast (6 minute rounds) and the blinds will hit me in 4 hands. I only have about 2.5 BB left. To be guaranteed a seat, I need about t16000-t17000. I figure I am in the "get your best hand and push" mode, when I am dealt Qs9s. UTG puts me all-in. I figure he is probably on a steal and could have near anything, but probably has an Ax or Kx. I figure that I have a possible straight, a possible flush and above all, two live cards. If I spike a Q, that may even be good enough to win. As you will see, I was severely criticized for this call. At the point where I had to make the decision, the pot was offering about 2.1/1 odds. I estimated that my chances of winning were about 40-45% against the original raiser. Was this a good call? Was my thinking correct about wanting live cards and the flush and straight draws giving me lots of outs with a fairly high card in the Q?

I like it. I probably would have gone before I got to 2 1/2 BBs but that is beside the point. Also instead of explaining to them you had live cards, type, "lol, but they were sooted." That always seems to get those who don't understand pot odds going.

I like it to. One question though, why did u put utg on a steal?

i like it as well

i wouldn't put utg on a steal, but i'd call and pray my cards were live. you are getting priced in to try to make a hand and survive a little bit longer. as long as no one has a pp from 9 and above you're in decent shape

not much you can do but call and hope for the best when you're that short

I put UTG on a steal because he had been raising from any position frequently once we got to the stealing stage. I had been stealing a lot too. You could do it nearly every hand, but I lost most of my stack a few hands back when my KJ with a KJ7 flop ran into pocket AA and a 7 fell on the river. Poker Tracker showed that he had been playing any Ace from any position. As a result, I didn't give him the usual credit for a strong bet UTG.
