After my first 20 or so posts containing deep poker insights I thought now maybe some of you would be willing to comment on some of my hands.

I hadn't been at the table for very long but it seemed pretty loose-passive.

Both true, but completely unrelated. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey thanks PokerBob, that you're retarded doesn't really matter because you don't necessarily have to understand why you're winning in order to win.

I'd raise PF. Why slow down on the river?

What calls that you beat?

7-handed, UTG poster = open raise preflop. Definitely.

The river is close. After only 20 hands I'd hate folding to a check/raise. But normally against any loose/passive I'm value betting this. Any worse pair will call. A jack would usually = a flop bet by SB. The flush is possible but not as likely IMO as a 5 or 3 just calling down. The straight is unlikely since it came runner-runner.

Villain shows 8/images/graemlins/heart.gif3/images/graemlins/heart.gif and ASSMASTER'S HAND IS GOOD.

Thanks guys. The consensus appears to be that a preflop raise is mandatory and most recommend value-betting the river. At the time I was considering betting the river but I wasn't very confident that I would get called by a worse hand.

It's a value bet. Against loose passives, they might call the turn bet with something like middle or bottom pair. I see it all the time. The SB checked the river, so why not bet it? Do you think he was waiting to check raise his flush draw? I'd be more alarmed if SB bet out on the river of course.

I like this reasoning as I was thinking bet the river too.

OK, I guess I have to fess up. Your suspicion that I may be a veteran poster using Ass Master as a pseudonym is correct. I am in fact Mason Malmuth. However per your request I will continue to post as Ass Master.

Yes, you certainly can. You have a very good vocabulary. I had to look up "acolyte" in the dictionary.

What calls that you beat?

Middle pair, pocket pairs lower than 8s, lots of stuff. If I know its a crappy player I am autobetting here.
