Going to have to say Columbo, myself. Though Monk is real close.

If you vote Other, tell me who I am a fool for leaving off the list.

Is he really a detective on the show? Strike team seems different, even if his rank is detective.

Yeah I know, but for 95% of the shows history he is part of the strike team. So its hard to argue that hes a great tv detective.

Hes the greatest TV badass ever. Yeah.

Gil Grissom of CSI, although not technically a cop.

Medical examiner. Bit of a stretch to get to detective. (I never watched much Quincy, so can't comment on if he really acted like a detective.)

Oh, and one more thing, the answer is Columbo.

The fact that Lenny Brisco from Law and Order isn't up there sickens me (even though he's dead, he should get a unanimous posthumous victory).

PoBoy321

How could Lenny Brisco not qualify? He's a detective on a TV show, not to mention the funniest, most entertaining one.

huh? He's possibly one of the most famous TV police investigators in history.

Columbo is king in my book though.
I'll toss in Briscoe, Mike Logan and even Ray Curtis.
My GF has big crushes on the latter two.

Another 'other' that very few probably remember are Tenspeed and Brownshoe....a short-lived series on ABC (I think) somewhere around 1980 starring Ben Vareen and Jeff Goldblum.
When I was 9 years old this was one of my favorite shows.

haha, Ya bookmans a good choice even with only 1 appereance under his belt. I have to go for sippowitz though and how he wasn't on the list is beyond me. He is the best detective EVER in the history of all cop shows plain and simple dickwad

Hrmm, I guess I left a few off. Though I was going more for the sleuth-type detectives, not so much cops.

Sorta surprised there is not even one vote for Banacek.

If Vic Mackey counts, him.

If not, anyone voting for someone other than Magnum is either too young to have seen the show or crazy.

I can't wait for the TV lawyer poll so I can vote for Matlock.

Columbo is a cop.

Remington Steele isn't so if those are your criteria then my vote goes there even though he was kinda gay
....and maybe Magnum PI after that (who also seemed kinda gay....maybe I've got some sort of thing for gay detectives).
