Now that the Republican Party with the vocal support of Prez B. is threatening to kill filibusters (by a simple majority!) there are potential upsides for the normal, rational American -- and one is more gun control legislation.

The upside of changing the filibuster rules (http://spofga.org/2nd/2005/march/senate_filibuster.php)

After all why should a minority be allowed to block the will of the majority. Right Mr Frist?

Read the 2nd amendment.

Democrats should get on the right side of this issue, and fast.

We're losing votes because of it as well. Pro-gun rights people far outnumber the gun control freaks. And that's exactly what they are: freaks.

It is the threat of filibusters that has prevented some of the gun control legislation to be passed.

With rules changes some of them would be law.

Undoubtedly there are other areas in which the republicans would be unable to stop legislation that they dislike.

Indeed.

I oppose the rule changes.

AC Player, I believe the rule change only applies to judicial nominations, not legislation.

And like Dead said, gun control is hurting the Dems, not helping.

Even if it did -- which is not a given --- you think the dems wont tinker with the rules to suit them next chance the get.

The Pandora box and all that.

Fortunately there appear to be enough sensible republican senators to make the passage of the rule change less than shoe in.

It is true that the Dems position on gun control hurts them in the red states, where the uneducated, feeding on the govt trough reside /images/graemlins/grin.gif
