I am trying to get much more aggressive and not just try and fold my way into 3rd anymore - did I go to far by pushing here - especially with the giant stack after me? I mean - afterall - I will certainly take 3rd instead of 4th!

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t400 (4 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

SB (t4034)
BB (t1314)
UTG (t1702)
Hero (t950)

Preflop: Hero is Button with A/images/graemlins/spade.gif, 6/images/graemlins/heart.gif.
1 fold, SB completes, 1 fold.

Flop: (t1350) 6/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 9/images/graemlins/club.gif, 8/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (2 players)

Turn: (t1350) K/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (2 players)

River: (t1350) J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (2 players)

Final Pot: t1350

Results in white below:
SB has Js Kh (two pair, kings and jacks).
Hero has As 6h (one pair, sixes).
Outcome: SB wins t1350.

The converter messed up, but pushing was correct with A6. Not pushing would be wrong. Your hand is simply too powerful with 3 players left in the hand and such high blinds.

Why do you think you have 3rd wrapped up? You're the small stack and if the BB steals, you'll be in trouble.

I think this is an easy push. Big stack has no reason to want to bust the bubble and even if he doesn't realize that, most people are much less aggressive about defending their small blind.

It's rarely correct to fold your way into 3rd place. Note that it does happen sometimes, but it's pretty rare and usually there have to be extenuating circumstances (Such as 1-2 very short stacks etc).
