So I'm at a spring training baseball game with my wife, and as we're on our way out of the ballpark, we pass by an opened, almost-full bag of peanuts sitting on the arm of a now-abandoned seat. I'm thinking some peanuts might hit the spot, so I reach in, grab a handfull, and proceed to crack them open and chow down as we exit.

My wife is mortified and accuses me of Costanza-like 'garbage eating'.

I disagree: the peanuts were not touching garbage. While discarded, they had only been by themselves for a couple of minutes, tops. And they're in their shells, anyway, so what's the harm?

Your verdict: ok to eat the orphan peanuts?

I frequently leave poisoned peanuts around because it makes me laugh.

Your wife is a nit.

While I think its really no biggie that you ate them, I would just buy a bag of peanuts if I wanted some.

lets say you see the former owner of the peanuts. Hes a huge slob, sneezing into his hand, coughing, obviously sick and unsanitary. Wiping his drippy nose with his hands then eating his peanuts. You still eat them? Then i vote you a homeless person.
Id rather just spend the $3 and be sure.

Eating someone else's peanuts :I suppose it's ok.
Eating some fat slob's discarded garbage in front of another human being: Priceless !
