Ok while back I closed my account at empire poker in order to open a new one to other party skin.
I thought I need to give some excuse to get my account closed fast, so off course whats better then "Hi im going to GA meeting tomorrow please close my account immidietly" and it worked!

Anyway now I opened new account to other pp skin, made a deposit and jumped into 15 30 games. Ran pretty nice after the deposit(its rigged to keep new players happy /images/graemlins/wink.gif ) and won decent amount. Then I closed the software and went to eat, when I came back I was unable to login and just got the following message: Your account has been closed, please contact us at +350-50509 (International Rates Apply) or +1-800-852-4719 (Toll free from US and Canada only) for more details.

naturally I called there and after one hour phone call(not a cheap one from Finland!) they told me I have a gambling problem I tried to explain it was just an excuse, but they didint want to understand that.
But they sent the moneys from account to neteller, so I didint lose anything.
I mailed them very next day and explained the situation, and seemed some actually understood this time. They send me a form I need to fill, scan and send beck with copy passport. I did that but now I got email back telling that I still cant play because I have a gambling problem. FU#CK!

BOTTOM LINE: dont use gambling problem as an excuse when closing an account

Yeah, I think it's safe to say they have a lot of people saying, "I didn't really mean I had a gambling problem!"

Thats why you have to say. "Due to a family issue with gambling, I need to clse my account" or something similar. Don't actually mention you have a problem.

At least they are keeping an eye out for addicted gamblers and NOT allowing them to play. That's some surprising integrity on their part.

yeah...this is kinda stupid.

beernutz reported a similar situation I believe in the internet-forum.

Also - you don't need to close you empire account in order to open an account at a different skin....so I'm not sure why you did that either.

It is my opinion that Party wants to show some integrity in this matter in order to increase their chances of their sites staying quasi-legal in the U.S. and other countries.

note they have added some sort of gambling-addicition message on their deposit page recently.

basically, they are doing some things that are similar to steps that B&M casinos do to keep their state gambling authorities happy. In so doing, the online sites have added legitimacy and when they are interviewed by some U.S. paper and asked "but what about problem gamblers" they can just respond "well...we take such-and-such measures that are identical with what all your live U.S. casinos do."

If they let someone else lose all their money after they had already confessed to being a 'problem-gambler' then they risk negative publicity when this loser becomes the poster-child for why online-gambling sites are evil.

Do you really need to have an excuse? I can't see why "Hi, I would like to close my account" wouldn't do the trick.

How about "My wife will kill me if I play another hand on-line" and if you need to or want to play again just call up and tell them that you killed the bitch so there isn't any problem?!?

Neither can I.

However using an excuse like "I would like to close my account because the martians that live in my refrigerator told me to" would be a fun alternative if you REALLY feel like you need to try to justify it somehow.

I need to close my account NOW because the aliens took my tinfoil hat that goes with it so I'll have to make a new tinfoil hat and then make a new account.

What this also says is that it's pointless to even bother closing an account, they obviously keep your information on file.

Don't know about other places, but here in the great state of California bartenders can be held responsible if they serve an obviously drunk person a drink and he then gets in a wreck and kills somebody. So anyone walking into a bar and hollering "I'm an alcoholic and I want a drink right now!" is probably pretty much whistling in the wind.

Don't know if that relates at all to poker rooms and gambling, but there just might have been a financial consideration here.
