Open Challenge April: Suggestions and Entrants

Since John Nickle has decided to pass on running the big show anymore, I have elected to take up the reigns unless I prove incompitent or people impeach me. So with that I would first like to establish some slightly clearer rules as to what this challenge should include. The major considerations are:

1.When exactly to report hands and the penalty for not doing so?
[I was thinking Thursday to Sunday would be good, possibly losing hands for not reporting?]
2. What hands do count, for how many?
[I think all hands should count because we want to be motivated to play any winning poker, but not sure on how to count things]
3. The matchups?
[basically its good now, you challenge someone specific or are matched up, but if anyone wants a clearer system of deciding how many hands to do, giving an over or under?]
4. The avatars?
[specific things not allowed?]

Sorry if any of that isn't too clear, but basically just looking for some solid guidlines so we can really get motivated. We want to be encouraged to play more, but not to go nuts because it is in the end only over an avatar. Any and all suggestions on how to better refine this already great established idea would be awesome.

And with that the April Open Challenge is now open for registration, which will close on a specific date [maybe Wednesday]. I'm in for another 10k in April, oh and I do accept rematches DMB /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyone mind posting a quick run down of what the rules for the OC are?

I'm assuming the premise is to set a goal for number of hands played for the month and making periodic updates. I'm just curious as to what hands are counted (ring, MTT, etc.), what the penalty is for missing the goal, or anything else that I should know.

Since noone has said anything about more specific rules yet I guess most people just don't have a preference. Heard Brian wanted more specifics but he has yet to say anything. I'm just going to throw out some rules that I think would help and people can say if they agree or not. By Weds. I would like to have them finalized for the month

1. Everyone puts in how many hands they think they will play and then I will pick who will be matched up fairly unless people specifically challenge each other. If need be, there can be handicaps or several people taking on one person, but this must be set at the beginning of the month and can not be changed afterwards.
2. I will put up the thread to report weekly numbers every thursday [even next thursday]. You have until Sunday night at 11:59pm to report or you will lose 1k hands from your final total [unless you hae really good reason or I am told beforehand]. The results for the week will be posted every monday.
3. All hands will count for any game that you are a winner or trying to learn/win at. All live hands count as 35/hour and all hands that you don't/can't put into poker tracker online like some tournies or SNGs I think should count as 50/table/hour to air [how do you spell this word?] on the side of caution
cookie, however, brings up a good point and that is that drunken hands should count as negative because they are -EV. Of course I expect noone to be honest about this but I'm putting it in there anyway.
4. Whoever wins at the end of the month chooses the other's avatar and location, but it must not be something so offensive so as to get anyone banned.

I never like to compete for monopoly money anyway.

I have poker tracker and play for 6 sites. Only 3 sites can have hands imported to poker tracker.

I will post hands I play, but where do I post? What is validity of a post? How can numbers posted be authenticated?

Just post how many hands you think you will be able to play next month. The captain has challenged you, but he is aiming for 40k hands. If you are looking to do more or less than that then it probably wouldn't be a fair matchup. This is merely a way to encourage yourself to play more so you want to be against someone who puts in about the same time you do. Just post what you think you will play and I will match you up. Actually, if someone is in the sitaution where they can't get hands in PT from regular ring game play [which would absolutely suck and I would almost just suggest not doing the challenge] I would say that ring game would count as 60/table/hour or for shorthanded 75/table/hour. SNGs and MTTs are slightly more tricky and can go slower so thats why I said 50/table/hour for those. I'll add this to the revised rules.
