Winner-take-all MTT. 60 players left. Blinds 500/1,000. Antes (I think) are 100. I have an average stack of about 19,000 chips. I get KJ in mp. It folds around to me, and I decide to go for a steal. I raise to 3,000, and the button makes it 6,000 to go. I'm skeptical of this min-reraise. It is either a weak attempt at a resteal, or he has a monster and wants a call. I decide not to chance it, but then BB calls. Now I'm getting about 5.5:1. I'm not sure what to do. Ultimately I tell myself that since it's 1st place or bust anyway, that I should call and hope to hit the flop hard. The flop is K,x,x, and BB pushes. He has me covered. I'm probably outkicked, but I'm getting 2.5 to 1, and a win here would put me within 10,000 chips of the lead. I call, as does the button. I'm up against AA and AK. I don't hit my Jack.

1. Trust your reads
2. Muck

I know I should have mucked, but when?
Was I wrong to try the steal, wrong to call the pf raise, or wrong to call the flop bet? Maybe a combination?

I wouldn't have called the RR from button with KJ, especially after BB cold-called.

First of all, I'd rather raise with 85o than KJ--it's trouble, man. Calling the reraise is not too terrible preflop with those odds, but I'm looking to hit something better than top bet so I can take down one of these other monster hands.

So, the big blind calls a raise and reraise, then pushes into the raiser and reraiser on the flop. Was there a flush draw? I think it's easy to see you're beat here, with few if any outs. And there's still the button behind ya.

This is similar to another post: See MLG Interesting Steal Hand 03/31/05 02:36 PM

Those are some nice pot odds PF! Because of the PF miniraise I don't want to call this with an A or a K or a Q in my hand. I think the range of hands here for both players is AA, KK, QQ, and AK. With your stack I probably fold.

I like the pf call. I would do it every time at those odds (4:1 is my personal cut off here).

Having said that, this is not "hitting the flop hard". I need at least two pair given the pf action and the BB all-in.
