View Full Version : Calling an allin reraise from a smaller stack with TT

B&M tourney, blinds 200/100. UTG raises to 600. He's been very aggressive, and a little loose. He's got 3500 chips. I've just busted a guy who reraised allin with A8o over the top of my A9o blind steal, and have 5300 chips.

I'm in mp, and look down to see TT. I raise to 1500. Folded around to UTG who instantly goes all-in.

Two questions.
1) Do you call?
2) Should I have reraised with TT or just smooth called?

1) I definitely don't call
2) Against most opponents I just call. If you reraise and are called that puts you in a very tough position (when you don't set), and although he's a bit loose his UTG raising requirements are probably something like 99+, AJ+. In that case I don't see this man folding to many of your reraises, and you could find a lot of ways to get yourself in trouble by making the pot big.

Clearly he is loose and you are likely ahead, so you have to punish him with a reraise, you can't let him get away with it and get a cheap flop. If he again calls your reraise, then that's twice he made a mistake now... more money for you!

The pot is about 5300. I have to put in 2000 more, or 27% of the final pot.

If you assume he'll only reraise allin with AK, AA, KK, QQ, I believe there are 16 ways to make AK, and 6 each for the pairs. So 16 times I'm up around 55-45, and 18 times I'm down 81-19. That would give me pot equity of 36%.

Three More Questions
1) Are my pot equity calcuations right?
2) If you think my pot equity is close to right, does that make it a call?
3) Or would it be an easy call if I was putting in a smaller portion of my stack, but since I'm putting in over half it's a fold?

Lastly, this tournament has 20 minute blinds and moves up real fast. Right after this hand we went to 150-300. I had enough chips to continue to steal if I folded.

I'm adding 88-JJ and AQ to the range, you said he was very. You are getting 2.5 to 1 on your call, great shot to get yourself a big stack, take it to the felt.

yes, this is good analysis. didn't check carefully, but it looks correct.

folding here would be a bad mistake.

Cat,

2.5-1 against; AA-88, AK-AQ, AKs-AQs maybe AJ or something.(I dont know how aggressive) I would call.

What room where you in? Which tournament?

I was in Casino Arizona in Scottsdale. Villain flipped over AA, and I didn't improve. It was very frustrating since I haven't monied in this tournament in a while and thought I was finally in position to be an accumulator and make some noise.

I hate just calling with TT, but it looks like my mistake was the reraise. I think I had to call his all-in. Because of the short stacks and fast blinds, this tournament is very tricky and I feel like I have to take chances. I guess I'm still trying to figure out how exactly to play it.

Yep that can be a tough room. I tend to give players there a little bit more credit than I would most other places around here.

Personally I think I would like to have seen the flop (not that it would have helped a lot), but you played it well, cards happen.
