Why did you underbet the flop and overbet the turn?

These situation arise for my from time to time when I think I need to encourage action by under betting the flop in order to 'extract' more money from my opponents when conditions are favorable for me. Unfortunately then I begin painting the wrong picture about my hand and it's quite difficult to tell where I stand when someone pushes all in.

I think you should have bet ~$8-11 on this flop. The texture of the flop is good for you. Anyone who calls this bet is definately letting you know he hit his set. As it stands the flop call isn't a good sign even at $6. After the call you over bet the turn by a lot. You put yourself in a bad situation. Without a read on villian I reluctently drop this hand. Yes it burns good. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Learn from the mistakes.

Also, raise more pre-flop. Make it about $6.

Argh, I'm so sick of making these mistakes.
You're of course right, both of you.

I should have raised more pre-flop, bet more on the flop and bet less on the turn (didn't play much right this hand... /images/graemlins/frown.gif )

It's always like this, I make several good decisions and reads, play the right hands, and every thing, just to piss away my money on a few REALLY lousy hands. I have to find a way to plug those leaks.

3 people limped in and the blinds were 1-1?

I like 7 in for the preflop raise

I would definitely suggest a higher raise pre-flop (maybe $6-7.) Worst case scenario there is that you push out the MP and UTG to take their posts. If they do end up calling, I would say a bet of at least $11 is warranted on the flop. With a caller there, you have a good idea that a set is present. Check/fold on the turn.

Raise more preflop.

Bet more on the flop..like around 10-15 looks good.

The turn is easy..if I had no reads I fold, with a read I might call/fold and to call my read would have to be that my opponent is wacky. Its as simple as that...in NL it's very very very important to have some kind of read.

Bigger preflop raise, especially w/ all the limpers to 5 maybe 7. I think a pot sized bet on flop would do just fine. At that point if he calls, I'd fire again for 3/4 on the turn, by that point you may be pot committed (didn't do the math). But I definitely think he shows you a set of nines if you call this all-in.

I agree w/ everyone that this should have been played differently on all streets. However, I don't think it's a clear fold. It's $33 to call into a $138 pot. You are most certainly behind 70%-ish of the time, but I probably make this call.

Yeah, I think you pretty much committed yourself with that huge turn bet and odd play up to this point.

My line is typically 6-7 pre-flop and then 3/4 pot bet on the flop and take it from there.

Getting 1-4 to call is tempting but that's why I would definitely need a read here...because againsts a reasonable opponent you're behind and drawing to at most 8 outs (2pair) and easily drawing to 2-0 outs, (set/straight). So with no read this is a clear fold.
