"I'd tell a new player to just play your bankroll," he says. "That's generally 40 times the big blind." So at the $3/$6 table, that would mean having around $240 to play.

[/ QUOTE ]

Woohoo, 300/600 here I come!

Edit: Also doesn't 3*40=120? Perheps he means big bet... Unfortuneately, I'm only br'd for 150/300. /images/graemlins/confused.gif

"I've probably logged a couple hundred hours and spent a couple hundred bucks," Darren says. "A buck an hour is pretty good entertainment for the money in my book."

Makes sense to me, if you view poker as entertainment and not a job. A movie will cost you ~$4/hr, a baseball game with decent seats and a little food ~$10/hr, etc.

im guessing the "couple hundred" this guy lost is a lot closer to 1k than to 200 bucks

You're probly right. But if you take him at his word, it's not bad.

Seriously, hes not DS but hes not an idiot either, I am fairly certain that Moneymaker was refering to how much you would want to play a session with, and the article was written/edited poorly. The demographic for the piece was recreational players, not those wanting to know what type of bankroll and limit is required to earn a living at the game.

Does this make it less funny?

I agree but it's much funnier with the other interpretation.

I definitely think the author has never played a hand of real poker in her life... Most of the errors you see in the article are probably just lack of understand and trying to interpret anyways. At any rate, it's still some funny [censored].
