I find this guy annoying. Occasionally he'll say something spot-on, but in general I feel like killing him.

I hate how he always says "we're up against it." The pausing and repeating of all his lines is so annoying too.

His show is like one big run-on sentence.

He had a good line today though, about since Canseco is doing the Surreal Life, his next move will be porn.

fox sports net shows blow in general.

tom arnold is not funny. at all. more than jim rome, we should kill tom arnold.

edit: in general, i dont understand why people choose FSN over ESPN, ESPN 2, or ESPN U. it makes no sense. the only time i watch this god-forsaken channel is when suns games are on it or when they occacionly had UofA or ASU basketball games. The Arizona Sports Report is also just plain stupidity. I dont know if your guys' regional sports report is as bad as mine, but the anchors of mine make Stuart Scott's "Oopty Hoop!" comments look inteligent.

He's like Howard Stern for me...funny in small doses. I have a fairly long commute, so if I had to listen to either of those guys exclusively, day in and day out, I would probably swerve into oncoming traffic.

I have attended two Rome tour stops. Rome is great to listen to on the radio. His ego is huge, so that can make people dislike him. His material is funny. His radio show takes a while to get used to. He does get a lot of interviewed guests on his show. I do also miss listening to Tony Bruno

ABSOLUTELY

I think its a weave...

Sketch very Sketch.

And BTW I dont know who in the ESPN "braintrust" determined that Tony Rialli was the next great sports broadcaster but the guy should be doing local sports for a Newark NJ UHF channel...and that schmuck, weasel, product of nepotism Jeremy Schapp should be his producer.

Finding out he(Schapp) was Jewish was the low point of my yesterday...I thought the Schapps were Dutch or something. Oh well at least Ill always have Stu Ungar and everyones favorite Jew Sandy Koufax to look up to.....

IM OUT-

Jim Rome has one of the top radio shows in the country for consistent entertainment along with Rush Limbaugh and Phil Hendrie.

Rome's interviews with high-profile sports coaches and players are always revealing, and Rome's style of questioning is outstanding.

While one might think that Rome's style would "wear off," on the contrary, his style is irritating at first and then infectious as time progresses.

I live in SoCal, and listened to him pre-syndication. I frequently listen to his show while driving to see clients and am constantly amazed at the quality of the show. I always get a laugh and learn something new in the sports world.

I have not watched his TV show, and doubt I will have the time or interest to do so.

I will dig this up ... it was nationally reported around 1996 that it was staged.

Furthermore, I went to high school with "T-Rodg" - his producer. He has told my buddies it was staged.

Again, give me some time to look it up.

[/ QUOTE ]

IT IS TOTALLY UNTRUE. My recollection is quite inaccurate. Neither party admitted publicly this was staged. Obviously, it was never reported as such, either.

Nevertheless, I have one thing to offer: I did play poker with his producer a few times in 1997/98. I am sure that event was discussed, yet I do not recall him commenting on it. However, if the conflict was not staged, I was not disabused of that notion at any time.

I think it was staged, but I will defer to published reports:

This is from an article discussing the show.

[ QUOTE ]
The most unbelievable episode of "Talk2" was the day when then-Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jim Everett was the guest on the show and Rome called him "Chris" three times. Rome often referred to Everett as "Chris" on radio and had no intent of cutting Everett any slack on television. Once Everett had had enough, he flipped over the table and nearly did the same to Rome.

Shapiro said he called Everett before the show to tell him that Rome would pull no punches. "I actually had a conversation with Everett and said, `If you don't want to do the show, don't do the show. That's cool. But don't get on the plane, don't come to L.A. and don't do this show unless you're prepared. Jim believes he has to be loyal to his fans and has to be a standup guy and he's going to come out with it.'

"The problem was Jim overdid it. He made his point and he drilled it home. He didn't need to drill it home. And he paid a price for it and he regrets it. He has learned from it and clearly succeeded since then."

By calling Everett by the wrong name, Rome made a name for himself for all the wrong reasons. He said he made a mistake by taking the stunt too far.

"What I learned from that is I didn't need to do it three times. In retrospect, I didn't know he was that angry," said Rome, who hosted "Talk2" for two years. "Putting him on the show wasn't my idea. Did we get this guy on a plane and fly him in so I could badger him and call him Chris and make it horrible for everybody? No. There was a good interview to be done and it didn't get done, and it's unfortunate."

Fortunately for all of us, Rome no longer needs stunts. He established himself as one of the best interviewers in the business during his five years as host of "The Last Word" on Fox Sports Net. He left FSN when his contract expired at the end of last year, saying he no longer could handle being on television and radio five days a week.

Last I heard, Fox didn't renew his contract. He was on KNBR 1050 in the SF Bay Area, and one morning, who shows up but Van Earl Wright. Ugh.

I was eating dinner with some friends one night at the Ragin' Cajun in Hermosa Beach, and VEW was in there with Lionel Bienvenue and, presumably, their wives...dude is just as obnoxious in real life as he is on TV/radio.

I thought his rapport with Siciliano was forced, at least most of the time. They seemed to get into these verbal sparring matches just for the sake of arguing.

I liked him a lot more when he was doing the ESPN Radio overnights.

[/ QUOTE ]

that's just incorrect.

yeah, i admit that Cold Pizza really does blow, but im usually not up for it.
Wilbon and Kornheiser are the highpoints of ESPN. PTI is an amazing show, in my opinion.
stat boy is an absolute faggot though. i truly hate him. arrogant dumbass that does not know anything about sports. only thing he can do is hit the mute button on woody.
but i mean, since there are such few "original" shows on ESPN and FSN, we can only compare the 2 or 3 that each has. PTI blows anything FSN could possibly put up, out of the water.
Also, in terms of simple coverage, sportscenter is uncomparable. some of the anchors are idiots though.
i still stand that FSN blows. Rome is funny...sometimes...him getting his ass kicked by everet provided a good comical element.

in addition, stephen a. smith is a baller. hes arrogant, but at least he gets the high-profile interviews, and knows a thing or two about basketball. the rest of the nba shoot-around crew, not so much.
barkely on TNT's basketball show is pretty funny too. i like TNT's coverage more though.
