my roommate had a conversation with an American guy who plays hockey and the dude claimed that it's extremely common for hockey players to shave their balls.

Is this true, and if so why?

I wouldn't say it's extremely common... or... that... I... necessarily.. know for sure.

Makes sense to me. Just for hockey players though.

Somewhat true. Growing up playing hockey this tended to be common on the teams I played on when I was older. Why I'm not sure. I do know that every girlfriend that I ever have really liked it. Another thing is masturbation is a lot more fun that way too. I would guess that this phenomenon occured before the making of this movie however this is explored in "Youngblood" starring both of the acting giants Rob Lowe and Keanu Reeves.
