I paid all my taxes today. Even the 4 yrs of back taxes/with penalties that I accumulated (long, boring story) plus all the JP stuff.

My accountant did a kick ass job!

This erases all of it. Clean, gleaming slate from here on out.

First time in about 16 years.

Woo Hoo!!!

Hot Damn! What a feeling!!!

Must be nice..I wish I owned 100% of my house but currently I'm at like 21% or some stupidly small number.

That's awesome, bernie. Congrats. Now I just have to get my wife to increase her withholding so we don't owe four figures next year ...

(And yes, I still plan on doing those VH CDs for you -- I had a hard drive crash and have been dealing with that for a while. I discovered that I should probably start backing stuff up more often.)

Actually, none of my debts had any equity tied to them that would benefit me in the longrun other than paying them off.

They all sucked.

I'm about to pay off all my back taxes, but then I'm in the out house again for 2004. Good for you, wish me luck!

I had a credit card debt that was hanging over my head for about 3 yrs...

I knocked out almost a 3rd of it with my tax return, and I'm gonna tighten my belt and knock out the rest of it with my next paycheck..

feels good, don't it /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Still in debt to the mother loving poker though - down $800 for the year so far.

I plan on being debt-free ... never.

However, I plan on paying off my student loans by 2025.

One good week/month and that'll be a distant memory.

Glad to hear it...keep this feeling in mind next time you pull out your credit card or any other debt creating instrument.

Grats man! You're one of the rare ones to be that way. Must be a big load off!

great story - I've got 7k in college debt in the late 90's - I got a contracting job that for a yr. paid 6 figures, so I was rolling in dough.

I called Sallie Mae and asked them what the lump sum was to pay it off....they told me, and I sent it -

next month I get a $14 due bill - apparently, they gave me the lump sum but not the 10 days for interest to acculumate -

so I called and bitched up a storm - I INSISTED I was done paying them and I had asked for a final balance and wasn't gonna let them tag it on.

Funny thing - I'm making tons of money hands over fist and I'm bitching insisting I wasn't gonna pay a $14 bill, because as far as I was concerned, I was OUT of DEBT, and they couldn't make me go back in...

and they destroyed my dream of being out of debt by saying I wasn't yet...

eventually, they wrote it off - they understood a guy who writes a check for 7K isn't gonna stiff them for 14 bucks.

funny how good it feels - you immediately get hostile to anyone taking it away from you again...LOL

You're right. I don't ever want to be in that situation again. I hated being in debt to anyone. It sucked.

It's amazing what a bad beat jackpot can do for you.
