Probably a fold preflop, since the raiser's stack was so shallow, but how to play here? Call? What's an optimal raise?

Do you have any read? I only ask because it makes a big difference on whether or not you're going to play this hand.

1) if you believe he's likely to have a decent PP, then you should fold PF. You don't have odds to play this for set value against this opponent.

2) IF you chose to gamble believing its very likely that your pocket 9s are the best hand and your opponent is playing A-broadway... then this is a great flop for you. Since he's short stacked any reraise is likely to pot commit you both... You might as well reraise all in?

As I said... what's the point of calling a short stack with 9s if you're not willing to go to the end with them? If he has overcards, you've got him drawing to 6 outs... go nuts. Otherwise, you might as well have folded preflop.

I's only half the pot. I would call and
1)Fold to a turn bet
2) bet if he checks the turn.

I would say that's the cheapest way to figure out if he is on missed over cards or an over pair.

Thats ridiculously weak tight.....Im sorry but there are

(A K Q J spades)like ~ scare cards plus the chance that he just fires again....

Reraise.

Tough one. I'm not laying down 9s. But I'm also not surprised if he has an overpair. I don't usually bet that strong when I miss the flop with A/K. But that is a likely hand he would have raised with and a lot of people will lead out to see where they're at. I'd have raised the flop, probably at least $4, probably just putting him all-in. Let him make the tough decision if he's got 10s or jacks.

Its hardly a tough decision for a short-stacked pf raiser to go to the felt with 10s or Js here.
