Card counting may give you a better chance at giving the house a smaller edge but it's nothing significant unless the number of shoes used is small, this is only for live blackjack. Online casinos reshuffle their decks after each hand so card counting online is pointless, blackjack is still an -EV game even with optimal strategy so it's only good for bonus whoring and if you're in the mood to gamble.

If it were possible to get an edge at online blackjack, then by now someone would have written a bot to do so and taken all of the casino's money.

Not when first starting out. With the right book/instruction, a complete beginner can achieve an EV at BJ of $100-150/hr within 6 weeks. How long will it take a beginning poker player to achieve this?

BJ has a high floor but a low ceiling. Poker has a low floor but a high ceiling. i.e. in BJ, you can pretty much guarantee making good money but you won't make great money (< 200k/yr) for long. In poker maybe you can only scratch out a little but you can also make a hell of a lot (250k+) and never get booted for being good.

Your EV at BJ is limited by your bankroll, not by your playing skill, unlike poker. The skill in BJ is staying viable to play.

The natural course of progression of a casino advantage player goes something like this:
BJ,BJ,BJ --> slot promotions/video poker and more BJ --> holecarding one and three card poker, even more BJ --> team BJ --> learn poker + more of the previous --> exclusive poker when casinos everywhere have repeatedly kicked you out --> play poker for 2-3 years then try the cycle again when everyone has forgotten your face.
