Dead pixles in 2001FP

What is a normal amount of dead pixels to have on this monitor? i have like 9 and was wondering if that was normal or if i should contact dell. i got the monitor around 2 weeks ago.

Call them...I think their limit might bet like 12 or something but 9 is definitely on the high side.

What?! I bought 2 19 inch samsungs like a year ago, and between them they have 1 dead pixel. If there were NINE on one of them I would demand a replacement.

I'm trying to find how many dead pixels I have on this cathode ray tube of mine, is there some software to test your CRT for dead pixels?????

Just got 2 new 2001FPs on Thursday and I guess I got lucky as I can't see a single dead pixel on either.

How obvious is a dead pixel? Do i need to look closely or do they stand out? I don't think I have any on my 19" CRT.

Also, I would demand a replacement as well with 9 dead pixels on a new monitor.

I knew you weren't completely serious (as their isn't a program to test for them).... however I figured that in theory dead pixels could exist.

Also if dead pixels really exist, I know you can return your purchase to dell for a full refund if you are not happy with it. If they don't replace it then just return them and buy a new one.

I think they have a 21 day total satisfaction period where the policy is you can send it back for a new one if there is more than 0 dead pixels. Otherwise I believe as long as its within the warranty time it's more than 8. You should definitely call or email support and try and get a new one shipped.

9 is really high. I have 1 2001 and haven't noticed any. I did have an old 17" lcd with 3 dead pixels that Best Buy let me exchange under warranty.

read the fine print...most if not all companies have some kind of dead pixel limit I've see it range from 6-16. The only company I've seen that has a no pixel policy is either philips or samsung and it only started this year.

Well, I guess you could get dead pixels if the phosphor on the back of the screen got damaged in some way, but that's not going to happen. The pixels you see on a CRT are just the phosphor dots. CRT design has changed significantly, howstuffworks or something should be able to tell you more than I remember.

busterstacks had i think 2 on his 2001fp and they replaced it. now, whether this is worth dealing with dell CS or not is up to you. but you should demand a replacement for a defective product if you ask me.

i had 2 dead pixels on one of mine, they'll tell you it has to be like 9 or something. just get all huffy and say this is unacceptable blah blah, then they'll say please hold. then they'll send you a fresh one.

edit: also try gently "rubbing" them out first. sometimes pixels get "stuck" and you can fix it by gently massaging them

i just called them and they said it was normal to have 7-13 dead pixels on a monitor of my size and they couldnt do anything about it.

That's the wrong answer...I got mine replaced with 2 dead pixels. Just don't take no for an answer. And since they made it difficult on you, don't return the one with the dead pixels /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Tell them if they won't replace it, then you'll just return it. That's what I did when i found 2 dead pixels on mine. BTW, I do recommend rubbing one out.

did you read my post at all? they'll tell you that, then start to get slightly irate. tell themy they are right in the middle and very noticable. say you didnt get this crap bundled with a pc, you bought a monitor only and you didn't pay for crap and that you will return it.

i did get it with my PC. but it was $550 more than the standard 17 inch monitor that was going to come with it.

My roommate told me Samsung, unlike Dell or anyone else, has a 0 dead pixel policy (don't know about the poster that said he had one)

9 is actually a pretty normal amount. You have to understand, if there were 0 dead pixels in every LCD sold, they would cost a lot more. Keep in mind, there are 1.92 million pixels in your monitor. 9 of them are defective, for a manufacturing defect rate of roughly 0.000469%. This is more than acceptable by any manufacturing standard known to man.

Number of dead pixels, or more precisely, likelyhood of dead pixels grows exponentially with increase in resolution for the LCD.

In other words, it is much much more expensive to produce a 1600 X 1200 sheet of dead-pixel-free LCD than it is to produce a 1280 X 1024 sheet of dead-pixel-free LCD.

I had 3 dead pixels on my Dell and they replaced it without giving me any hassle at all. I did mention that one of them was just about dead center on the screen, which was very annoying (especially since it was black and 2+2 is white). The replacement still had 1 or 2 dead pixels but they were in unobtrusive locations and I have not noticed them since.

By the way for some reason the web page that someone put up to test for dead pixels did not work for me. I simply went to control panel, display, screen saver, Marquee and changed the background colors to White, Red, Blue, Green and Yellow to find my dead pixels.

When I said my Samsungs have no dead pixels I was referring to my 213T's ... 21.3" 1600x1200. I also have a Samsung 153T that is several years old and has no dead pixels.

Dell monitors are notorious for dead pixels and screen door effect. They are cheap, so a lot of people are willing to overlook the faults.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday when I was reading this while waiting for mine to be delivered. I was happily surprised when I found zero dead pixels on my 2001fp after I got it set up.

you just paid a grip of $$ for a monitor that is defective. The process for getting it replaced is simple. call them, bitch until they agree to replace it. lie about how many dead pixels you have if thats what it takes. they will send you a new monitor, and then you send them the old one and they pay for the return shipping.

i even kept defective monitor for like 3 months before i sent it back.

Just got my 2001 from the last multi coupon price dropping event that dell had and did the pixel test and couldn't find any dead pixel's.

So, i'm quite happy about that.
