View Full Version : My personal OIC shot challenge

Okay, time for a new challenge!

When the summer starts, I will have an adequate bankroll for multi-tabling 1/2 with GameTime+ on my new laptop on Empire Poker before college starts in the fall.

However, I'd like to start at a higher level than that this summer. So, for the next 2 months, I'm gonna try and build a bankroll from .5/1 to hopefully at least 3/6 or higher.

Here is how I will do it:

.5/1 - Start at $100, end at $200
1/2 - Start at $200, end at $400
2/4 - Start at $400, end at $800
3/6 - Start at $800, end at $1600

Should I ever hit a low level, I will drop down. I'll document my progress daily in this thread. We'll see how things go from there.

Currently my bankroll is around $1000. Ideally I'd like to get that up to around $2000, maybe $2500. I don't know what I'm capable of, so this is why I'm doing this.

Wish me luck.

Good luck dude.

Switch to PV. I used to use GT+ and PV >>>>> GT+.

Also, what is OIC? "Open Internet Challenge"?

Have you ever played 1/2 before? If your goal is just to double your money, then I would play sh. Read some posts, it's much much better than full.

Having just walked a friend through this I fully concur.

At the .5/1 level I'll be playing full ring, but after that it'll be short handed.

I'll be on Stars, though, so no GameTime+

Player view and GameTime

lets you see other player's stats in thepoker table window as opposed to dragging up PokerTracker.

Hey, quick question bicycle, how many tables should I be playing at a time for shorthanded under these conditions? What's your opinion?

3ish. 4 if you can really handle it.

I'd recommend three as well. Four can be rough if you've only played full tables before and since you are playing on a laptop I assume you will have some overlap, which never helps.

ClaytonN

Im not on a laptop. Thats for the summer + college

I've played short before, so I've decided to do 4 tables of short handed, no overlap

shadow29

I do 4 tables of 1/2 sh for bonus clearing. It takes only a few hands to get used to it, but after that, it's really really profitable.

March 29: No playing, had to get some studying in.

March 30: Played a boatload of hands at .5/1, and got my arse handed to me, to put it bluntly.

After ~800 hands I am currently down about $45 (or so says PokerTracker)

Here are my stats:

VPIP: 28.64
PFR: 18
WASD: 51%
AF: 3.94

I played well overall, just a bad run of cards. These games can be very, very swingy and I'm well aware of this fact.

My AKo has only won 5 out of 10, and I'm averaging a net of -4.5 BB per hand. That should be a solid indicator of how my day went.

I'll put in some hands tomorrow, but I gotta hit the hay.

I know 800 is a hella small sample, but are you sure you aren't playing too many hands? This is a bit high (unless you're IndieMatty in the 15/30 full, then you're just card dead).

6-max.

That still too high?

03-30-2005, 05:46 PM
Yeah, just a bit though. I haven't played those .50/1 6max games, so it might be fine if everyone else is that bad. A lot of HUSH advice is around 24-25, but like I said, I doubt they have the PS .50/1 games in mind. I know when I played TGCs .50/1 6max during the OIC, I had a VPIP around 24. I'm too tight though.

ClaytonN
03-30-2005, 11:57 PM
From my experiences, the games play differently than from what I see at, say 2/4 6-max.

Crazily enough, I have decided to start over and play full ring. I'm not comfortable playing six-max given these conditions, so I'll play full ring. Less profit, yes, but more comfort and better play overall.

I'll have updates tomorrow.

mmbt0ne

I say that's a good call. Especially if you're working with a 100BB roll.

March 30:
Today was at American Pie for trivia. We could have won, final question was name all four hosts of Family Feud.

We couldn't remember the name of the other dude on Tool Time on Home Improvement (fattish with the beard), he was host number 4, so we didnt cash. Nuts.

Today I played some full ring and promptly dropped another 20 BB. Wooyay.

I don't understand it, limit kicks my ass. Maybe I need hand analyzation. Or maybe it's that every time I raise AQs in MP, the flop comes 267r or 48Kr. I dunno.

So, to mix things up I played six $10 HU NLHE matches. I went 5-1 for an overall profit of $37.

Maybe I should just be like Strassa and build my roll playing HU matches /images/graemlins/tongue.gif . No, seriously, maybe I should.

Because limit HE is KICKING MY ASS. Recently, anyways. I hate swings.

I'm seriously considering doing an OIC like this based strictly on SNGs. I'm not very good right now, but I think with a weeks worth of reading STT, I'd be able to beat the $5 and $10 pretty easily. Then, it's just a matter of moving up and getting better.
