View Full Version : Sick of BM play, converting to online

was always a big BM player. I enjoyed being at the table, the conversation, the environment, all that stuff. I enjoyed being able to see my opponents, what type of person they were, how they played, etc. I'm not claiming to be Hellmuth, but it definitely did help my game to have a person across from me. But recently, with the exception of higher stakes games that are exceptionally good at times, I've found that live play is just not as profitable as online poker. I'm sick of seeing a tiny number of hands per hour, I'm sick of how slow it goes. I'm convinced that when the time take is 8-10$ per hour in a 1/2 NL 250 buy in game, if the players are slow enough, and fairly tight (not TAG, just slightly weak tight, with weak/slightly loose fish mixed in), the game is not very profitable. Maybe I've just been on a bad run of cards, maybe I'm just frustrated, but BM poker also prevents you from moving on and putting hands behind you.

I guess my drift is that when mid/low limit BM poker is slow enough, it is a waste of time compared to the online games as they are right now if the players are fairly tight, and the time charge is big enough. Goodbye cardroom hello online. Though I think higher stacks NL (500 buy in games and over) with fishy players is still very profitable.

Anyone else have similar complaints about BM play?

I agree about the hands per hour thing. So many times on a weekend night when my g/f has to work, I get all pumped about goin to the casino for some live poker. But then end up sitting at home playing online because 30hands/hr just sounds aweful compared to about 300 hands/hr (5tables).

As far as the difficulty of the games go, small stakes games are actually tougher online than live. But the amount of hands you get in allow you to have a lower winrate, but actually win more per hour.

Yeah. I agree with you 100%. It's very enjoyable to sit down at a table with live players. It's so much easier to read your opponents. Online play is much more profitable though just because of the number of hands that you can play.

Runs of bad cards in B&M just suck. I recently had a monster run of bad cards online. I was thinking that if that same bad run had happened in a casino, it would have occurred over like 6 months of playing 40 hours a week. Psychologically, I don't think I could take that even if the rest of the year more than made up for it. It's much easier to dwell on live hands than B&M ones.

Today, I was still thinking about a loss with a flopped set of aces on St.Patty's Day in a live game. I can't instantly recall any of the numerous online beats I took just yesterday.

How long have you been playing B&M? It's definitely good to have something to fall back on if the online stuff craps out.
