You didn't actually discount the fives in the statement although I think you discounted them when calculating your pot equtiy.
I would say 1.5 outs for the 2 fives and both your 4 outs are clean. Adding in your rr flush draw and 3 gutshots outs, I get the same 8 outs you got. The wording is just a little confusing.
