View Full Version : Sharing O8 databases

Since the creation of PTO I have been datamining party O8 games and I am assuming that I am not the only one. What do you guys (and gals) think of sharing databases so we can drastically increase our sample size?

I dont have PTO yet but I very soon will (still on dial up /images/graemlins/crazy.gif). I "kind of" against us sharing data. The reason is because the last thing I want Party n' Skins O8 tables to become is a rock garden.

Any other comments or suggestions?

I am not worried about making party a rock garden and here is why:
- In my database I have over 4K players and I have been data maining for about 4 hours a day for 3 weeks.
- Party has over 50K players playing at most time of which there are at least 5K O8 players

Basicaly Party and Co have so many players that I don't think sharing databased is going change play at all. This is the same reason that I don't mind sharing advice on forums like these; your chance of running into a player that you helped is very small.

I would love to have access to your PTO database in order to perform some regression analysis experiments. If you have the bandwidth to spare, I'd like to download your database. Otherwise, I'll start datamining the all of the Party skins starting tonight.

I only have about 25K hands which I was hoping to get to around 100K with the help of other 2+2 readers.

I am willing to share my data base but you should start data mining anyway. That way we can increase the database at twice the rate.

What does data mining means?

Data mining is recording hand histories by watching tables. You put all the data into a program like Poker Tracker Omaha and see who is loose, tight, aggressive etc

Ok thx, fig. that was the answer but wasn't sure...

You have to copy / paste hand by hand? Cause if you're not in the hand the HH doesn't is saved in the hard drive.

is pto capable of eliminating hh duplications?

That sounds good, I'll start datamining away. I have well over 100K hands in my hold'em database. Out of curiosity, I exported the stats for all players with 100 hands or greater to a text file. You can see that file here (http://home.comcast.net/~tbgoldman/poker/holdem100.txt). While we wait for Omaha stats to build, I'll look into playing around with the hold'em stats for any insights.

Yes it is.

There are some sites that are now saving all observed hands to your hard drive.

From poker trackers website

"Empire Poker
Party Poker
PokerNow
Intertops Poker
Coral Poker
Multi Poker

no hand history downloads are needed from any of the sites listed above. The hand histories are stored on your hard drive and can be loaded into Poker Tracker on virtually a real-time basis."

I have 500k+ hands of o8 limit split between 6max 1/2 & 5/10 and full ring 10/20 & 20/40. Lemme know how this goes and I'll try to contribute in some meaningful way. I would also consider trading db's with other high-speed enabled 2+2r's.

If there was interest in this idea I was going to set up a web site for everyone to use. So far there have only been 3 people (including myself) who want to share so I don't think that it is worth the time.

Maybe if a few more people want to share ...

Or just get a g-mail account.

I have a gmail account, I just thought that if many people wanted to do this a website would help organize it.

I have started to data mine the lower limits on party 1/2, 2/4 and 3/6. I would be interested in sharing whatever data anyone else has.

For those of you who are interested in sharing what levels are you mining?

I have:
.5/1 Full Ring: 29,184
1/2 Full Ring: 6,598
2/4 Full Ring: 11,199
PL $25 Full Ring: 17,125
PL $50 Full Ring: 925
PL $100 Full Ring: 980

Also if you want to share databases make sure that you don't have the "Do no store the actual hand histories text for these hands" checked.

The only way to merge databases is to export and import the hand histories, so we can't share unless you are saving the hand histories.

As previously noted I have started 1/2, 2/4 3/6 ring games on Party. I just fire up party and observe 4 games while I am doing other stuff at work or home. It is amazing how quickly you can amass a large amount of data (about 200 hands/hour).

I am at just under 800k hands and should hopefully reach a million hands in the next week or so. I am looking at some of the results so far at the 10/20 and 20/40 level and have seen some pretty neat stuff which I'll hopefully summarize and post here next week.

When I reach a million hands, it will be fairly equally distributed among 20/40, 10/20, 5/10 (6-max) and 1/2 (6-max).
