View Full Version : Who is the Biggest Loser? (R1 G1)

We've already seen a fight between Superman and Darth Vader give us a lively debate. But the better question is:

Who is the biggest loser?

Intent on answering that question, a group of my friends and I identified sixty four of the most wussy or incompetant fictional characters out there (male only, and we aimed for those whose sexual orientation were not in question, as we did not want to introduce and prejudicial biases into the matter).

So, you vote, you decide!

I am going to do four matchups at a time. The "R1 G1" in the subject stand for Round 1 Group 1. But for those who want to see the whole field, you can view it at this web page (http://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=100239). Each poll will be open for about a day.

The question you are answering is who would WIN in a fight between the two characters in each poll. The loser will advance -- therefore, we get the biggest loser. Get it? Good.

Like usual, resolve any ambiguities yourself.

GROUP 1:
* Snarf, from the Thundercats faces Snagglepuss, from Hanna Barbara
* The Heart Planeteer from Captain Planet faces Gargamel from the Smurfs
* Donny, Steve Buscemi's character from The Big Lebowski, faces Holden Caulfiend, the protagonist from Catcher in the Rye
* Steve Erkel, from Family Matters, takes on Cobra Commander, from GI Joe.

May the best man... win?

Wait a minute. We're voting who would win in a fight? So the winner of the whole thing is the loser that fights the best? That's not what I would call biggest loser.

The LOSER advances to the next round, not the winner. So the one who loses the most will "win" the tourney.

Mr. Rogers was originally on the list, but he's not fictional, and two of my friends thought he was as much in the closet as in the land of make-believe.

Capt 'Roo is pretty badass. He's a captain, you know.

This is way too confusing of a poll. Anyways, the Heart Planeteer sucks the most out of all of these, and it's not even close. Just remake the poll and leave him as the only choice.

I think he's going to lose to Erkel. Even if he can't call Captain Planet, he's still tougher than Steve.

Here's my final 4:
Paul Pfeiffer
Ralph Furley
Hans Moleman (he has a tough bracket, he's gonna have to lose to screech and then glass joe!!!)

Edit: Decided that Mr. Magoo's luck will allow him to overcome Mr. Furley.
The Cowardly Lion

2nd Edit: I really think Hans Moleman is going all the way.

I can appreciate you not wanting to fill the bracket with Warner characters, but, I really think that Porky Pig over Elmer Fudd is a pretty poor choice - On a meta-level, Porky was Warner's first successfull character and in his later appearances as Daffy's sidekick (ie: Robin Hood Daffy), Porky generally comes out way ahead of Daffy... Hell, I think Sylvester and Yosimite Sam are way bigger loosers than Porky, too...

I don't think Egon, Doogie, Chandler, Piglet, Dwayne Wayne, Fez, Quark, Wimpy, Mickey or Chandler belong anywhere near this list!!

How do you pick Mickey Mouse over Goofy? Or Egon over Louis Tully?

What about:
Angel (The Rockford Files)?
Ted Baxter (Mary Tyler Moore)?
Les Nessman (WKRP)?
Herb Tarlek (WKRP)?
JF Sebastian (Blade Runner)?
E.B. Farnum (Deadwood)?
Larry (or either of his brothers Darryl from Newhart)?
Greg Medavoy (NYPD Blue)?
Tim Taylor (Home Improvement)?
Carlton Banks (Fresh Prince of Bel Air)?
Inspector Clouseau (Pink Panther movies)?
The Inspector (Pink Panter 'toon)?
Poochie (Simpsons)?
Todd & Rodd Flanders (Simpsons)?
Scratchy (Simpsons)?
Tom (Tom & Jerry)?
Cousin Oliver (Brady Bunch)?
Shaun (Shaun of the Dead)?
Willy Loman (Death of a Salesman)?
Jake Barnes (The Sun Also Rises)?
King Lear (way bigger looser than Hamlet!)?
Hong Kong Phooey?
Dudley Do-Right (Rocky & Bullwinkle)?
Boris Baddenov (Rocky & Bullwinkle)?
Plankton (Spongebob Squarepants)?
Squidward Tentacles (Spongebob Squarepants)?
Marvin (Super Friends)?
Captain Mike Murphy (Sealab 2020)?
Harvey Birdman (Attorney At Law)?
Stan Laurel (Laurel & Hardy)?
Lou Abbott (Abbot & Costello)?
Alfalfa (Our Gang/Little Rascals)?
George "Kingfish" Stevens (Amos & Andy)?
Barney Fife (Andy Griffith Show)?
Darren Stevens (Bewitched)?
Phil 'Duckie' Dale (Pretty in Pink)?
Gary Wallace (Anthony Michael Hall's character in Wierd Science)?
Sam Gerard (The Fugitive)?
Paul Lassiter (Spin City)?
Roy Biggins (Wings)?
Dan Fielding (Night Court - early episodes)?
Reverend Jim Ignatowski (Taxi)?
Hal (Malcolm in the Middle)?
Ed Grimley (SNL)?
Mr. Wilson (Dennis the Menace)?
Luther Van Dam (Coach)?

Okay, I've spent way too much time thinking about this already...

A lot of the characters on your list did not make the cut but were debated. For example, Tom of Tom and Jerry was basically the same character as Wile E. Coyote but less fun. There were about seven suggestions for the Simpsons' representative but Hans won out -- also note that Todd and Rodd fail what we called the "ambiguously gay" test. We also tried to keep the characters identity pretty obvious unless we had a good reason not to (the Heart Planeteer was just too good, for example) -- that's why Louis Tully didn't make the list. Luther Van Dam was rejected because the whole cast is a bunch of incompetant wimps, from Dobber to Luther to the AD.

Porky beat out Elmer because he doesn't have a gun and is married to Petunia, who makes him her b*tch.

In short, there are at least 10 guys on your list that we rejected for one of those reasons or just simply disagreements about how wimpy or incompetant they were.

I wish I had thought of Carlton Banks, though. Then again, he may fail the ambiguously gay test.

What good is a gun if you can't hit anything? And Elmer is Bugs' bitch... /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Some others:

Bat-Mite (70's Batman cartoon)
Herbie the Robot (70's Fantastic Four cartoon)
Al Bundy (Married with Children)
Bud Bundy (Married with Children)
Ernest (Hey Vern, It's Ernest!)
Maxwell Smart (Get Smart!)

You have Inspector Gadget, but neither Smart nor Clouseau? WTF?
