what was the explanation for the whole city thinking that the ghostbusters were frauds? what about the stay puft marshmallow man?

I haven't seen the movie in a long time but I remember wondering the same thing. Doesn't anyone in New York remember the first movie?

what i dont get it why the whole time...they cant cross the beams. but then they did it and it totally pwned that guy. why wouldnt they always do it.
