If you've got time it's a decent read. Maybe even a good laugh - especially love the tips from Darren and Hilary...

Odd betting amounts: Betting an odd dollar amount can require the use of several different colors of chips. Darren says he thinks people use this trick to make their bets appear bigger.

...because I usually take time to count the chips instead of reading the little number....

It's all right here (http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/SavingandDebt/P112493.asp)

Playing poker online differs from playing in brick-and-mortar poker rooms in a few ways. Moneymaker points out that playing online can be a lot less intimidating than a real-world casino, where the smallest limits are often $3/$6. The biggest problem he sees is players who try to sit at tables where the stakes are too high for their cash flow.

"I'd tell a new player to just play your bankroll," he says. "That's generally 40 times the big blind." So at the $3/$6 table, that would mean having around $240 to play.

Actually, that's usually the result of using the slider in big bet games instead of typing in the amount.

This is incorrect. On every site i have ever PL or NL on,(like 4..), they use $5 increments minimum for bigger sized games. It is DEFINITELY a function of typing in a #. I do believe there is somehting to the "more chips" theory tho, but not much. I don't think it makes people fold more, but if fish think it does, fine by me. As said by OP, I always look at the #, not the stack.

I actually do that every once in a while because it confuses the crap out of people... like betting 1.82 into a pot of 1.50, people have no idea what that is

I assume soah reposted this because of the genius math error. This is what happens when someone has no clue about poker and then writes an article.

40 X $3 = $240? /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Nice work! /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I also hope that is from the editing that he said you should have a bankroll of 40X the BB.

While I was visiting family I transferred small amounts on PokerStars to my brother and Dad. The ability to learn to play with no rake up to five cents/ten cents is great.

BTW, from what I can see the 5/10 cent game on Stars plays tighter than the $4/$8 and $2/$4 games at Foxwoods.
