I have a puppy, had her for about 4 months.

Lets just say it was the best thing I have ever done, and the worst thing I have ever done simultaneously.

At my age, conditions have to be close to perfect for you to get a dog, and mine happened to be. I would reccomend to just about everyone to wait until you are more settled. If you already are, then definetly get one.

Yeah---thats where I'm at. I may move several more times in the next few years, plus I am seldom home. It would be completely unfair to get a puppy and leave it alone all the time.

I grew up in a house that always had dogs---Boxers, Airedale retrievers, an Akita, etc. I really miss them.

I understand the tremendous hassle a puppy can be, but in the end, they really are the best [censored] companion in the world.

By-the-way, what sort of Dog, and how old was he/she when you got him/her?

Boston Terrier. Minimum age when I took her home (8 weeks), and she was 2 pounds!!! (smaller than puppy toys or pugs even). It was awesome having her at that size. Now she is about 10 pounds.

Im settled now, I will be moving in with my girlfriend in a few months (the dog is ours, but I take care of it while she is graduating this semester). We are settled in the Hartford area, (she is only 21 but has an actuarial spot at Aetna). I had a ton of free time these past 4 months, and will up until about July. The dog will be well raised and settled by then, and more capable of being alone for longer periods of time while we are at work.

Your question was interesting to me, because my friend just made a huge mistake IMO, and got a puppy. He is looking for teaching spots around the nation. He wants to move to Madison Wisconsin for a year, and he likes to generally travel a lot. He loves dogs, and didnt account for anything in his choice. I honestly think his life will be much harder with the fact that he got the dog, which is a TON of work in the puppy age.

Just realize what it means to be entirely responsible for a child (although not human) life.

I got a bulldog puppy in january, he's 4 months old now. I'd been wanting one for a while and since I'm home like all the time right now it seemed like the perfect time.

Now my girlfriend's trying to get me to get a cat. Not for a while.

I got an english bulldog a little over a month ago. He was 8 weeks when I got him. I've wanted an english bulldog for as long as I can remember, and just recently have been financially and schedule able to get one.

I love him. Here are a few pics right after I got him:

Well okay I guess I can post some pictures too. The first one is when he was about 9 weeks old, the second is more recent.

He's still a lot of work but he's worth it.

two cats. One is solid black, the other is grey, and has squirrel-like markings.

Cats are cool. I would like to get a dog, but my neighbors have two little annoying Shelties, and all they do is yap. I'd hate for an animal of mine to learn from their annoying stupid behavior.

I hate yippy dogs. I'm thinking my next dog (I've had plenty in my life) will be an Australian sheep dog. Intelligent, cool, not huge. My backyard isn't real big, maybe 50ft x 60ft, and I wouldn't want to limit a large dog to that small an area.

I have two parakeets. I got them for my son but have grown to like them very much. They are extremely intelligent and they are always singing and chirping. I leave the cage open so they can fly around. The one likes to dive bomb me while I am playing poker.

as soon as i move, which should be in the next couple months, im gonna look for an apartment that allows animals, so i can get a cat. dogs are nice, but they demand such attention and it would be difficult for me to have one with my lifestyle. travelling is not much of an option.

I'm just kidding around... but you do realize that domesticated animals basically don't know when to stop eating? Thats why we feed them, and dont just give them access to way too much food.

Both my cats are on diet food, w/ portions prescribed by the vet. Believe me, I take it seriously. The fat one is definitely too heavy, but nothing we try seems to make her lose weight. The other one is a little heavy, but not too bad...she just looks obese in that first photo.

2 11-month old puppies that are brother and sister. Baxter is the boy, Sable is the girl. They take exactly after my wife and I. Baxter wants to do nothing but play, Sable sits on the couch with my wife and watches TV.

I have a 20 pound cat who isn't even 2 years old yet. He is not even really fat- he is just a giant cat. My friends have a Pomeranian- I was at their house the other day and realized my cat leaves piles in his litter box about the same size as their dog =)

if you liked your akita, then a shiba inu would be an awesome dog for you, as they are also very easy to house train, very clean animals.

they are related to the akitas, japenese dogs, basically smaller versions of them.

I believe alobar has one.

beautiful dogs.

having dogs rocks, i got a puppy in oct. and its awesome, even in college.

Please see all my old posts about the saran wrap eating, wasp pointing, fishhook chewing German Shorthair. Total retard. Spastic. Loved him. Miss him. Would never have another one. Weimers are worse. A weimer owner envied our moronic german shorthair.

The current 30 pound pee on your foot cocker spaniel is much more manageable.

I know they are very needy dogs and when not given the attention they want, they can be very troublesome dogs. On the other hand when trained properly from a puppy and given the attention they need, they are very loyal and obedient dogs. I agree if you don't have the time or the energy for a dog like that, you should look for a dog that is not as needy.

Just because the dog outlasted their expectations doesn't mean they were wrong. If I fold J6s utg preflop and the flop comes 6J6 does that mean I was wrong to fold it?
