hero passes
UTG preflop raise and then leads flop into preflop reraiser
i muck, not much on flop that i can smile about

any reads? that could help. does villain like to bet? passive player? anything?

I raise a bit more preflop (1200'ish).

given the preflop action, i fold that flop since I'm not closing the action.

well for me when utg raises it should get some respect, and my only reraising hands are aa or kk,with ak i certainly call the raise but don't reraise, and if i don't flop an ace,k, or str8 it's an easy fold to a big bet post flop,he's still representing that big pair,so you've lost 475 and can move on to another hand,in this case with you having ak,i would assume he more likely had tt to qq then aa or kk,and with that flop all those hands have you dominated, you're ak had about 24% chance of hitting a or k on turn or river,so easy fold .

I wasn't going to weigh in on this discussion, because I felt you were getting spot on advice. PF, your options are re-raising to a more respectable sum (1200 sounds good) or calling and hoping to catch. The re-raise adds to your FE on the flop, but that play puts more chips at risk both PF and AF. With a call, you have very little FE on the flop, but if you catch, it will be a lot easier to make it pay (people have an easy time making the connection btwn a PFR and AK when an A or a K is on the board).

What parts of what posts do you disagree with? Why?

Week leads= trouble here IMHO.

That small reraise is about the worst play you can make here. He just should never fold for that little more. if you want to reraise you should make it about 1300, which is more than 1/3 your stack so just go all-in. Otherwise call, and play a flop, at which point its easier to just fold to the bet.

i suppose its an ok play in tourneys, but i don't think AK is a great multi-way hand. personally. Thus i reraised, but like some pointed out - i think it should have been bigger. Although if someone wanted to call 800 cold, why would they not call 1000 cold?

I would. Reraising committs your whole stack, and thats always unpleasant since its such a huge overbet, especially against an UTG raise here.

is there a consensus to smooth call w/AK, AQ when stacks are deep?

depends. Stacks arent hugely deep here. If the stacks were deeper reraising wouldnt committ you to the hand and might be a good play. Here make a legitimate reraise is a 1/3 of your stack. I don't want to push here so I call. With either less or more chips ill repop it.

fair enough - understood.

seems counter intuitive for me to invite people into my AK pot, but things are different in the world of tourneys /images/graemlins/smile.gif
