Or do I just have to take my medicine like a man?

Villain is not maniac... What could he possibly be raising me with?

i'd be tempted to raise the river.

i don't see folding anywhere, im curious. what did you think villain had here at the time that you were so worried about?

He was in the BB, he could have some ragged two pair. This seems like just the right number of bets to put in.

Me, too. 88 is the only hand that you would fear. I don't think raising would be bad, set over set happens but most times I think we're ahead.

Not a good spot to raise and fold to a three-bet.

A fine spot to raise and call a three-bet though. I think that's what I would have done.

when I got raised on the turn, I had him squarely on AJ. When he capped it, I thought he had a set and I was dead to 1 out.

Had he called, I would have considered 2-pair. I realize I can't fold on the chance he has some 2-pair so I figure enough bets have gone in and I call.

Sounds like folding to a cap is not even to be considered.

He had 88.

folding would have been terrible. you shouldn't be looking for spots to fold a set unless the board is getting really ugly and there is hardly any chance you can win.

you couldn't have known he had 88 instead of 33 or an overplayed 2 pr.

I am not looking for spots to fold a set, I am just trying to read his hand and make good decisions. I think this board IS ugly for my set given that he is a 'normal' solid 5/10 player and I have bottom set. I am not saying I should find a fold here as this hand would be driving me crazy if I had folded. This is a situation where I am just glad I am not playing No Limit and I can look this guy up without it costing me my entire stack.

33 isn't really possible in my opinion. He is not going to call 2 more back to him on the flop with 33?

I didn't really even consider 2-pair given I really don't think he caps it with 2-pair.

i missed out that you said he was solid so yeah 33 is pretty unlikely. it's clear you made a good read and saved yourself some bets on the river, but you still don't want to be folding here.

capping w/ 2 pair is a fairly common occurrence, more common then set over set for sure.

If he's really that solid then just calling is probably the best play.

What I think mr pink is saying is that if you raise, you should callt a 3--bet.

Maybe he caught two pair, or his set on the turn.

I'd raise the river and call a 3-bet. I'm becoming a maniac though.
