Could there be any other reason?

Actually, I am 4 tabling 30/60, and was down 2k when this was about to start. I didn't want to end my session that down. Since then, I am actually up some money, good come back.

A little curious why you would jam there with AJ...

davidross
03-24-2005, 11:16 PM
Because I was sure the guys in front of me would fold, I just needed to get by the 2 guys behind me...and I didn't.

Punker
03-24-2005, 11:20 PM
I'm sorry, I can't believe that is a good play. Couldn't you do the same thing with a raise to about 250?

ThomB
03-24-2005, 11:21 PM
My kk vs ka
Played it perfecty got the call like I wanted off the guy who cant control himself going all in. He hit his straight on the river.

TO elaborate further, I'm still playing a couple of tourneys so I just gave a quick answer. THe blinds are about to go up to where I'll be 10x. I don't have a lot of room for post flop play, and I hate linmping there. I like making all-in pushes from spots like that because a lot of players hate them. THen they go hunting for you later when you do have a hand. THe risk is that someone behind you will find a hand and he did, but that doesn't happen often enough to make me not try it, but it sure didn't work this time.

Punker
03-24-2005, 11:35 PM
One of us I think has a big leak, since I thought it was one of the worst plays I'd ever seen you make. I wonder if you might post the hand in a new thread; I'd like to see if I'm the one who is approaching it wrong.

davidross
03-24-2005, 11:37 PM
I'm not going to try and claim it's a good play, but it fits with my overall strategy, I do it a lot. Because I play ring games for a living, the tournaments cut into my "earning" time. As a result I tend to try and build a stack early or get out, within reason.

I really don't like the raise to 250. A lot of players will call the 250 and fold to the 1K bet. It's a 1/4 of my stack and if I'm called and miss I'm left with 750 and in a couple of minutes the blinds will be 50/100.

To be perfectly honest I like folding better than raising less than all-in. I think I pick up the 175 chips already in the pot 90% of the time though.

davidross
03-24-2005, 11:39 PM
Try and forget it's AJ, my cards don't matter. Last night I did it with 86 and J6. I just pick spots where I'm confident I won't be called, and hope to get action later when I do have a hand.

Punker
03-24-2005, 11:43 PM
You've probably played 10x as many hands as anyone else on your table. Are you really that afraid if someone calls and you have to take a flop holding AJ in position?

davidross
03-24-2005, 11:54 PM
To be perfectly honest...yes. I really don't play very well post-flop. It's certainly not my strength. I like playing with a deep stack or with a real short stack where I can push or fold.

I don't want to get caught up in trying to defend the play, I don't like it very much at this point either. My timing sucked tonight in all 3 tournies I played. I blew off a bunch of chips bluffing a guy who flopped a set, and I slowplayed a flopped set of Q's by checking twice and letting a guy hit a runner runner gutshot in another.

I still like pushing my hand better than a smaller raise, but because the blinds were still so small I think I would have been better to just fold the hand. I've done well in the last 3 weeks by playing just premium hands and tonight I went out with AJ, QJ and KT..Blech.

"I really don't play very well post-flop"

I highly doubt this to be true.

Sirio,

I am kind of surprised you pushed with AJ.

Did my previous play of raising with 4-4 induce a call from you?

Just curious.

Well, with my short stack after your raise, I don't have too many options with my AJs, so, I think pushing was the best option. The 44 didn't induce my play, maybe your 99 that cracked my AA. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif. Nah, I think is kind of automatic play with my stack.

Table 15 with T4815

I tripled up with KK and took out sirio(sorry sirio). I did not play many hands in the second hour. I have the chip leader two to my left. Not good. He is definitely not playing sheriff, so maybe I can make a few moves.

t3125 at the second break. lots of good cards in the second hour but not much action w/ them. GL.

Stipe_fan

Oh yeah, sirio. I usually play the 15% rule with pocket pairs. Your T350 raise was definitely my limit to play. I hit a set or fold or unless I think I can outplay the raiser. The latter doesn't happen very often!!

Good luck, sirio

Was at 15k when I doubled off QJ with my 98s on a Q98 flop, then lost 2k with QQ to shortstacks KK...Now I lose big pot with KJs to AK..tricky hand, and Im wondering how I should play the turn...dont question the utg call, b/c I have big stack and want to use it...

I think I check behind there or, more likely, only bet about 2K and check the river unimproved. You don't mind calling a CR push but if he calls 2K you won't have the best hand often enough to give him another 2500 on the river, and if he calls one he calls the other.

That was an odd time for him to go all-in, considering the size of his stack compared to your raise. Worked out great for you though.

i'm out in 20th, lost two big flips when we were down to 3 tables. GL Don, Stipe.

Thanks Tyler,

I ended up taking 4th and Don took 5th. We both were knocked out on the same hand. Don was terribly short stacked. I had him coverd with twice as many chips. A big stack raises 2BB, I move all-in, Don goes all-in. I felt pretty comfortable with my QQ versuses Don's random hand. Then another stack went allin. I was worried about him and rightly so. He flips AA. Don has, I believe, AJo. Four diamonds hit the board, I have the Q, big stack has the ace and were out.

Thanks for all the 2+2ers support. I know that I don't have the reputation as Don, Davidross or MLG but a few players recognize my name. I have done very well in the MTT since January. I came in 6th in the $200 buyin Saturday Special and a slew of ITM finishes from $250 to $800.

I know that this board has definitely helped my MTT game. Even though some of the topic are extremely contentious, they bring some excellent contrasting views.(i.e. MLG and Sirios views on early tournament strategy. I feel both have excellent rationale for their style of play)

See you all on the tables,

Stipe

congrats stipe, i value your input on this board.

how much did 4th net you? i played the 20+2 11:30 last night. had double average stack after the first break then self-destructed. guy stone cold bluffed me off half my stack. you always feel like [censored] after that lol.

Thanks much, simplistic. I think I should post a little more often. I don't pretend that I know it all. But, again we all learn from the variety of answers to the various posts.

I reposted my last post on it's own thread so hopefully more 2+2ers will read it.

I took home $6400 after the buyin, simplistic.

Thanks again for your comments,

Stipe
