When playing at any poker site, does this sound familiar?

-gg mate
-gl mate
-thx mate
etc, etc...

I cant stand it anymore, the Euros are driving me nuts with this one. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'm used to it, my uncle is Aussie. What bothers me more is when Americans say it because they think it's cool.

Gawd I hate it so much. I definitely hate when people type "m8" much more than "mate" too though.

I love it.

I use it to blend in, and then take their money when they're not looking.

Its not sup bro, but it doesn't bother me. I just seem to have a higher tolerance than most posters here for things that don't remotely [censored] matter. Funny that.

m8 pisses me off, but most internet contractions piss me off. "mate" itself is fine. Jesus [censored] christ, god forbid everyone doesn't speak like you. Other than being xenophobic pricks, australians are among my favorite people on this great planet of ours.

It has two connetations though.

You might say you are off out with your mates or whatever.

But if you are out and maybe having a discussion with someone and they call you mate then watch out they are probably pissed off with you.

I agree....
Anytime an Englishman, that I did not know, called me 'mate'..... There was bad blood....

I don't care about it on poker sites, but in real life "mate" is awesome.

At the last drunken party, I renamed one of my good friends Matt. His new name is the mispronunciation of his old name: Mate

I should I be taking this personally? I use Mate both in real life and online (including posts here) all the time. Get some culture into your life, get over it... it's better than Pakastani's saying "my friend" all the time.

I've just been inspired to start calling everyone "Cap'n".

Thanks cap'n.
