This was the very first hand that I had played at this table. After watching 2 full orbits before playing this hand the players were very loose with the pf raises and their flop bets/raises.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (6 max, 6 handed) converter (http://www.selachian.com/tools/bisonconverter/hhconverter.cgi)

Hero ($50)
UTG ($85.43)
MP ($26.2)
CO ($38.82)
Button ($54.2)
SB ($111.05)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J/images/graemlins/heart.gif, J/images/graemlins/diamond.gif. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
<font color="#CC3333">UTG raises to $1</font>, MP calls $1, CO calls $1, Button calls $1, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, Hero calls $0.50.

Flop: ($5.25) Q/images/graemlins/diamond.gif, 5/images/graemlins/club.gif, T/images/graemlins/spade.gif <font color="#0000FF">(5 players)</font>
Hero checks, UTG checks, MP checks, CO checks, Button checks.

Turn: ($5.25) 7/images/graemlins/club.gif <font color="#0000FF">(5 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $4</font>, UTG folds, MP folds, CO calls $4, Button folds.

River: ($13.25) 9/images/graemlins/diamond.gif <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero checks, CO calls $33.82 (All-In), Hero folds.

Final Pot: $47.07

If this hand was later in the session I wouldve taken a completely different line as villian turned out to be a maniac (90/15 and 3.3 river aggression).

Aside from trying to take down the pot pf, what would be the best line to play this hand knowing the guy is a maniac? Not knowing anything, does the river warrant a blocking bet after my turn bet?

Yes, the River definately need a blocking bet. By checking the flop, betting on the turn and then checking on the river you are totally leaving yourself open to a steal at the end.
