I felt like it. Poker Bob needed to be check/raised. I also was close to 90% sure I was ahead.

My range of hands is much more legitimatly defined after I cap it still with SB involved in the hand. I do think I went a little far.

You...88

CW...An overplayed TT or AA.

Chairman Wood

Not quite but essentially correct.

If it's AA, I would call the 1st turn raise and check/call the river.

If it was TT I probably fold to the first turn raise since you're now behind anything I can think of that PB would play this way and given your aggression to that point I highly doubt he would raise worse hands because it would seem very unlikely you would fold whatever you're holding.

I think it was AA but that makes the river check/raise really bad, IMO.

If he didn't have 88 then I think JJ is just as likely. I doubt if he caps the turn without a set on this board.

Chairman Wood
03-24-2005, 10:51 AM
Well PokerBob's isolation 3-bet's may very well include any pocket pair.

chief444
03-24-2005, 11:12 AM
Yeah. So Obviously any set is possible. And I guess JJ is out since he just called the river. I forgot that. So 66 would be the next most likely.

I figured ChairmanWood could have a variety of holdings given his position, and thus I wanted to isolate him and use my position to basically scare him away. I intended to bet/raise any flop and reevaulate. He knows me and respects my raises. That combined with the fact that he is possibly raising with a weaker hand here made me play the way I did.

I had 33 and got lucky as hell. He had AA.

while we're still at this hand, can you explain your isolation bet?

you are isolating a 2+2er, with pocket 3s, which are either a coinflip or badly dominated by a high pocket pair. anyone consider a fold here?

chief444
03-24-2005, 12:31 PM
I'd rather cold-call than fold if I expected he'd go this many bets postflop with an overpair. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seriosly though, folding wouldn't be bad at all.

The fact that CW is a 2+2'er makes my play even better IMO. I know he can loosen his raising standards in the CO, which means he will not be at all happy with my 3-bet. IF I show aggression post-flop, he may very well fold a better hand given that (a) I have position on him (b) I 3-bet pf and (c) he knows that I know that he knows that I know..........

CallMeIshmael

A nice advantage of the 3-bet is that it sill scare villian into making a lot of bad folds postflop.

If he opened with KT, and the flop came 962, there is a decent chance he would incorrectly checkfold, with the assumption that his overcards are possibly dominated.

This is even more true if the flop contains a J or Q.
