I went back and read his posts in the thread, seems likely that he did come up with it originally.

Dude, those threads are from MARCH 2003!!!! The 2+2 thread was JANUARY 2005.

I believe he had no outside influence and it was hilarious. But like a patent or copyright, it did exist before he posted it.
