I have an '05 S4 and I didn't think the new '06 could be much better. The '05 S4 is such a great car -- yet it looks like I should have waited a year.

414 horses and 6 speed transmission. I like it.

That thing is sweet.

I want an Audi Quattro station wagon, like, badly.

well the rs and s series are different. this one's supposed to run around 70k too, well over the s4's 50k.

New BMW M3 is due later in the year ealier next year, the reviews of the new 3 series are saying its back to the drawing board for Audi and merc as the new car is miles better, I expect the M3 to trounce that poshed up Volkswagen.

based on what i've seen of the new 3 series i can't imagine liking the m3 more. the a4 class looks much better (and more german) to me, awd is a huge plus, and the interior is about as nice as it gets for a sportscar. if bmw clocks in .1 faster in a 60 sprint i couldn't care less.

03-22-2005, 06:27 PM
Well then I'm stupid. I thought the RS4 was replacing the S4 line effective 2006.

i've seen mention of the 2006 s4 in the general a4 previews

I was more talking about driveability than the looks. I have owned two audis in the past and the way they drive is much worse than the twe Beemers I have had. The current rehashed A4 is a decent looking car but just doesnt have the driving quality of the old 3 series and the new one is meant to have moved the class miles forward, but I will know better once I get a test drive next week.

you've gotta qualify your assements of the car's performance;

were the audi's you drove 2wd or quattro? BMWs are RWD, which, to an experienced driver, is much better than FWD, although, IMO, quattro handles far better than either in any condition other than nice, clean, dry pavement, for which RWD is obviously superior.

an audi with quattro will smoke almost any similarly powerful BMW, mercedes, acura, etc, on anything other than a well-maintained track.

there is a reason that the WRC has banned quattro.

Funny how I got flamed and basically called a girlie man a few months ago for owning an A4.

very nice! It's a nice candidate to run with the VW R-32

Its out over here and costing £61,000 so at a guestimate I would say $100k not sure how the prices go in the states though.

I looked at a 3 year old M5 last week but it was sold before got chance to do anything, was very nice plus had satellite navigation and fitted tv's etc in the back. Only down side is the 20mpg.

good luck, the waiting list is already a year long in many places. and the markup from MSRP is in the $20k range. figure that it will cost you $120k or so. i would personally never spend > $100k for a car from BMW or Mercedes, if i was going to spend that kind of money it would have to be ferrari, aston, bentley.

I don't get it. Why would someone pay >$100k for a car with an automatic transmission?

Or am I missing something? Is there a manual option?

the front end is hideous.

lu_hawk

there is no auto option on the m5. either 7 speed manual or SMG. same thing as the m3, except m3 is 6 speed.

i don't know what the plans are for the new m3 but the current one is 333 hp and i highly doubt they will try to get the new one up near 400 hp because it will have to go up another notch on the price scale and will be too close to the new m5. also, my understanding is that the new 3 series comes out this year but that their won't be a redesigned m3 for another couple years. that was what happened with the m5.

Oh my bad. I mistook the SMG for auto (not that familiar with BMWs).

Looks at lot like the other AM also (db8 in particular). There are worse things than copying one of the best looking cars out there.

Well all designed by the same guy yes it does it will be $30k ish cheaper than the new Aston V8 that is coming out later in the year to challange the Porsche 911 range (I think its over priced to compete though nice as it is)
