this is from an eMarkM post:

[ QUOTE ]
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t400 (9 handed)

eMarkM (t4550)
Button (t4154)
SB (t4232)
BB (t3480)
UTG (t18746)
UTG+1 (t4840)
MP1 (t6110)
MP2 (t7580)
MP3 (t5306)

Preflop: eMarkM is CO with 8, 9.
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, MP3 folds, eMarkM raises to t1225, Button folds, SB folds, BB folds.

Final Pot: t1425

Results below:
No showdown. eMarkM wins t1425.

Again, all the stacks behind me are similarly sized and they'll probably be coming over the top of me all-in when they play back, so they'll be folding the majority of the time and I can make an easy laydown when they do move in.

if i understand correctly, the idea is that when the blinds play back, they will have to push. that push will be a fairly big reraise, so they will not want to do it unless they have a strong hand (since the risk/reward is relatively bad). so eMarkM should feel comfortable stealing (and folding even a pretty good hand if they push).

first, is this right?

second, would the play be a little better if hero raises to T1050 or T1100 instead of T1225? they're most likely going to push if they play (and hero will fold), so why save a few chips?

yep you understand it, and my default raise is actually 1000.
