I have been studying up on the short handed play here and there seems to be a consensus, that in order to play very well I need to have a good read on my opponent.

I am planning ot move up from .5/1 long handed to the 1/2 6max on party poker. My question is, is it wise to play multiple tables like I can do on 10 handed tables or am I asking for disaster?

Always learn basics on fewer tables, then add as you feel comfortable.
I also practice playing 8 tables to get an efficient "generic" way of handling situations.

I would recommend cutting the number of tables you play about in half when moving from full to SH, especially if you are moving up in limits at the same time. It can take awhile to get used to how much more fast-paced shorthanded is...then add more tables as you become comfortable playing at that level.

Good luck!

If you play sensible tight-aggressive ABC poker at $1/2 6-max you will kill it. The players there are extremely poor. Value bet a lot. Bluff almost never. That is all.

1-2 tables is fine
